Just found your channel. I know your work from COC in the arms of god. In my opinion, you were amazing on that record. I’ve heard the record 100 times and I still can’t figure how u pulled it off. Thank you sir.

Man that sounds so cool. I’m a beginner drummer and my biggest challenge is holding a good consistent beat for more than a minute. My mind starts to wander and before you know it I’m thinking of what’s for supper

Working on and practicing these beats to the songs in the playlist will be great for your focus! 👊🏼

My mind always wanders because I get easily bored, and I've been playing for a long time, and it's still a challenge for me, and now I am old........ keep playing Dave, keep playing!

@@tmaddrummer yes, staying focused is one of the biggest challenges. It is for me as well. I needed to practice focus too… still do.

@@stantonmooremusic do you have any tips for staying focused? Also, I really enjoyed your ending improv. I truly enjoy watching you play!

I sent a song of mine that's in 12/8 to a drummer and he came up with smth, but not exactly what I wanted, which is exactly some of what you did in the "Outro" section. if only I had known earlier. You just played what was in my head for the song right there! It's one smasher of a song. I'll let you know when it's out.

This is my go-to beat whenever I sit behind a drum kit I've never played before...or if I haven't played in a long time. I just close my eyes and relax and play for several minutes to 'feel' the kit, to get in synch with it. Thanks, Stanton! Really enjoyed this!

The key thing about this beat and style is that it leaves things wide open for constant improvisation by every band member, including the drummer. There is an infinite variety of fills and variations you can play over this. And guitar solos. And vocal ad libs. You almost can’t make a mistake. Listen to “Since I’ve Been Loving You” by Led Zeppelin for an extreme example of where it can be taken. This is core blues. Start with a simple framework, and then play whatever you feel.

Just trying to keep it simple for this lesson. If I play the hi-hat on a 12/8 groove, I usually play with the snare on 2 & 4.
