It's a really big help to watch you dissect his style. I agree that if we try to mimic him that may be very difficult. It's fantastic to understand the type of chord progressions he uses . Thank you very much for this great video! It's exactly how you said. I always skilled my technique and always played by tabs and sometimes by ear, not understanding the theory behind it. I lost my happiness with playing guitar because I get stuck. Five years later, today, I'm willing to dive deep into music theory with direct contact to guitar. I'm excited to grab my guitar again every single day and hope soon I can build such great progressions as well and understand them completely. Your art of teaching is great and I immediately subscribed. Rock on!

Tomo the PPPP videos recently were my first experience of just how amazing and unique your playing and phrasing is. I’m ready to listen to you. You said it perfectly, “if you can’t do this, you can’t go outside, you have to stay inside”. I’ve played too long to not have this down. Fun story I got out of prison in 2012 and got invited by a fellow inmate to a small little festival in Virginia in November and PPPP were playing and it was a great first experience.

It probably greatly helped Ichika starting out on Piano to know theory and chord progression more. Compared to most guitarists who can get away with, learn chords and rhythm immediately. Then tabs came to show what to play instead of learning the ideas behind them. (Not against them too, no one has the time to learn theory and learn by ear.)
@TomoFujitaMusic3 жыл бұрын
Same way... Mateus Asato... Most people don't have music theory with ear training. Most people has music theory knowledges with no sound! Yes, tabs became popular so this cycle create many guitarist stuck same place forever! My job is secure these people!

Another great 3Level lesson! I really like the way things are broken down to digestible blocks. Also the little comments you throw in a what seems like a random fashion, are also useful, pointing me to different areas of interest. Don't edit. This semi-live-like video's are great for this format. Great job! BTW, I just watched one of your live stream turn to video from six month ago(?) and just had to crack up! In it, you commented on the importance of posture after complaining of back pain. What cracked me up was when you referred to your self as " middle aged" . Dude, I'm slightly over 60 and I have the same experience. This seems to happen to young at heart Japanese living in US for 25 plus years. Folks in Japan told me that 50+ is in the 初老(early elderly)stage of life. そのくせ年寄り扱いする癖に、割引券とかこないし、ワクチン接種も後回し。どっちかにしっろって。今時分人生100年。十分中年でしょ。まあ、日本に居る時は中年と自負しない方が得策の様です。 Anyway, keep up the good work Tomo! So nice. Sometimes we have to ask ourselves why certain things only happen in certain times 😆. This comment is about all the videos I am seeing (oldest and newest). I am from Portugal and have studied guitar for 25 years both by me and 2 years in a jazz guitar institute in Oporto. No one ever taught me so clearly and sensitive that would immediately impact my playing in a way that all makes sense and I can now connect all the theory and shapes drudgery that I had inside my head. I had much confusion and I would always ask why Frank Gambale technique book spitted 😅 all the triads and who could remember all those shapes. I could not play well bc my mind would always complicate everything. Thank you Tomo! You're an outstanding teacher and player with very good taste both on equipment and music choices. I am sincerely grateful to have found you. You make me so happy 😁 the soloing over c7 chord made my brain cells click when you said mixolydian is a sound not a shape!!! I now have my small book too to write the important stuff in 1 page. 🙏❤️ i am not frustrated w myself anymore.

I discovered Ichika Nita though Tim Henson only days ago. Which returns me to Tomo, and which is way above my level. But it feels like we are returning to classical and jazz playing. Some of Henson's playing reminds me of Brazilian jazz and the percussive stuff reminds me of Conlon Nancarrow's prepared piano. Which is sort of how he composes it. Yet it feels classical. Ichika Nito, feels like a return to the 50s - 60s jazz guitarists. But is there some Segovia in there, too? I'd be interested in hearing Tomo situate their playing within classical and jazz history. Thanks for the wonderful introduction to his style.
