In case anyone is wondering, playing a major 7 arpeggio/chord a minor third above the minor i chord gives you a minor 9 first inversion of the i chord. Playing DMaj7 over B Minor = Bm9 with the D(minor 3rd) in the bass. Useful information for comping I hope and very simple if you know the Maj7 shapes.
@TomoFujitaMusic5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining that fun approach!!

I dont follow you at all. D7 = D A C F#. There's no B in the chord. How can it be a B anything?

@@SD-nj1cy he's saying play a Dmaj7 triad over the Bm. So (I think) you're basically adding a C# (ninth degree). This is the only note from the triad that isn't in a Bm already. I think that is right, anyway. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong

I’m new to guitar playing but I’ve always loved the blues. Ironically, I guess to some, I really don’t enjoy “jazz” guitar in it’s more traditional sense. The more I watch Tomo the more I realize I kind of dig jazz guitar, especially when it’s got this funky blues feel Tomo puts on it.

This is literally the most incredible guitar lesson I’ve ever watched before. A lot of people just teach either a bunch of random theory with no real world application stated or how it actually works, or they just teach a few licks that you can steal and try to find a way to incorporate in your own playing This was so informative and so much information but you literally showed what to learn, why you should learn it, and how it sounds when done correctly. Absolutely AMAZING sir!

Finally here after your 3 levels of minor blues chords. Learnt a whole lot of new shapes, which is always a great thing. Haven't ever approached improv this way before, and it definitely looks a bit daunting, but I really want to take it to this level of sophistication. I've just been practising the 5 pentatonic shapes, so I think now looking at triads and inversions would be a huge step in the right direction.

Really useful suggestions. I have been confused about how to use scales for a long time. Now slow down. Leave space for every sentence and try to use triads(really interesting when using “one-finger-method”) It takes a long time for me to connect arpeggios to the right note.
@TomoFujitaMusic5 жыл бұрын
So great to hear that! Easy to teach about information but its hard to teach how to use them musical way. Simple is better!!
@skymusic18975 жыл бұрын
TomoFujitaMusic Could you give some tips about how to make the arpeggios “listenable”? For example, you played a very nice sentence based on the arpeggios of D# diminished 7. Then how to connect this sentence in a natural way, producing a nice sound? Knowing arpeggios is not difficult. But as you said, it is not trivial to play it in a musical way.

@@TomoFujitaMusic thank you this helps me a lot. I'm an self teaching guitarist and blues harp player who plays over an year now and its rlly hard for me to create interesting guitar licks or even solo in a beautifull way, even tho if I know the postions and even if I keep hunting the roots
