I love, love, love this video! I learned so much and it confirmed for me so many of the things I have learned about gardening in Hawaii. Probably the best tip for me was the need to till or double dig our clay soil. I have felt it would destroy the micro biome in the soil so have resisted doing that at my community garden. Now I feel like I have permission to do it. Also am going to grow some cover crops in my beds that I won’t grow in again until in the spring. Thank you so much for going to Lapa’au Farm and sharing his wealth of knowledge with us!

It is so rewarding to share knowledge and learn from each other in the gardening world, isn’t it? Both Jerry and I just enjoyed listening to him speak, too! Thanks for sharing, Debbie. CK/CG

Such a wealth of knowledge. My husband was stationed on Oahu so Hawaii is in my heart. I learned a few things there from a landscaper friend. I’m fascinated with the use of mushroom / mycelium.

Yes he has a wealth of knowledge for sure!! He is so easy to listen to and learn from, as well? Neat about your husband, too, April! The islands are definitely in our heart, as well! Kim

Hi CK and Cg Can you please give Lap'au Farms a huge thank you! It brought back a lot of memories for me. My Mom worked as a Bookkepper in the agricutural industry for 50 years. I remember helping out on the Mushroom farm she used to work alot. Packing Mushrooms, Harvesting them, Selling them at the farmer's market. We ate a lot of Mushrooms and other fresh veggies. Because the farmers here will trade their produce for other farm produce. It's where I first got my gardening bug.Unfortunately the Mushroom farm is no longer in business as the owners retired. Even tho I am 64, I will continue to keep growing my grocery store.

It sounds like you have such a wonderful connection to the food you grow! Thank you for sharing those special memories, Kim. Let's all keep growing together! Loved this comment. Hugs. Ck

Many thanks to you and to Michael for such an information-filled post. Michael's expansive fund of knowledge in this field is clear. I will come back to this video again and again to absorb all that he has so selflessly shared. These are concepts that will help me in Michigan Zone 6a as much as it helps gardeners in hot and/or humid climates.

"Having that connection to where your food's coming from.." AND "Oh, this is food..." - Man, this so resonates. I can't grow everything in my backyard, but what I CAN grow has changed me forever. AND - totally recognize you gave up some of your downtime to create and share this. Such an amazing video, thank you! Also - I think I'm going to try some mushroom spawn - cuz THOSE WERE GORGEOUS!!

I’m shocked at the amount of helpful advise I just took away from such a different growing environment. Most the time I get nothing helpful from a gardener not from our area (SE Oklahoma) but he really has some great advice! Definitly going to subscribe to your channel too, you and your camera man do a great job! Edit to add, I have indeed damaged my plant leaves overhead watering in hot sunny weather. We’re talking very hot.

Rusty - Welcome to my channel. I am so glad to have you along and so appreciate the kind words! This type of feedback encourages us to keep on a goin'. Farmer Mike was such an easy workflow to film with. After filming, both CameraGuy and I said he has so much to share (and he loves doing so) to all levels and he is so easy to listen to. Thank you again for watching/commenting. Ok *no pun intended* SE OK -- what's your weather doing right now? Still running warm/hot weather? We've cooled off this week but are expecting warm temps this weekend. I don't think I'll need to put shadecloth back on - just warmer weather in general. A few things you may or may not know. We live stream everyone Monday, 12pm PT. Been doing so a good 7-8 years now and it's a fun group to get to know. We both are on Instagram and visit our website sometime, as well, learn more about CameraGuy and I, our seed collections, books and partners! Great having you here - CaliKim

Absolutely fantastic content. Just subscribed. I’ve been working on my own food forest and veg patch’s for the last 12 months. Expanding what I already established. I’m in Queensland Australia and the climate can be very harsh and challenging so I’ve adapted my gardening techniques to suit and now seeing the rewards of what I have created. If your ever in Australia come and see what I doing. Fantastic content keep up the wonderful work. 😊😊😊

Hi kim I'm starting to grow fall vegetables what's the best fertilizer u use for your vegetables
@CaliKim292 ай бұрын
Hey Keith! That’s awesome that you’re diving into fall veggies! 🌱 For fertilizer, use the tips Mike shared here in this video and I talk about in most of my videos as well. I really love using organic options like compost and worm castings-they're fantastic for boosting soil health and providing a slow release of nutrients. If you’re looking for something quicker, a balanced organic fertilizer like a fish emulsion or seaweed extract can work wonders too. Just make sure it has a good N-P-K ratio (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) suited for the veggies you're growing. Have fun with your fall garden!
