Hi Annemarie, that was just superb! Also, thank you very much for bringing our attention to the tip "obligation". Just out of curiosity, how much is one supposed to leave for the server? Any rules on that? Cheers again! Jana
@Speakconfidentenglish2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question, Jana. In the United States, it's expected to leave at least 20% for a tip; perhaps a bit higher if you're happy with the service.

Interesting to know 😊 “Jeggings” is a portmanteau word formed from “jeans” and “leggings”.

Absolutely right. Great example.

I think that SITUATIONSHIP could be a turning point in my life: as a happy single woman, I'm scared of ending up in a sick relationship with obligations, unwritten rules and so on BUT, after years of orthodox singleness (can I use this expression that I have literally translated from Italian?) I might be ready for a SITUATIONSHIP🙂
@Speakconfidentenglish2 ай бұрын
I love this! I'm so glad you've discovered a new word that describes what you're looking for right now. 😊 As for 'orthodox singleness' can you tell me a bit more about that?
@robyroby19022 ай бұрын
@@Speakconfidentenglish so I guess that this expression doesn't exist in English 😊 Many people say they have been single for a certain period of time but then you find out that they have, as a matter of fact, few "SITUATIONSHIPS" .... With "orthodox singleness" I mean that I haven't been dating anyone.

Thanks so much for sharing more details on this. 😊 I've not heard that expression in English before. Without full context, it might be challenging for an English speaker to understand.

Portmanteaus I often hear: workaholic= work+alkoholic = A workaholic experiences an inability to limit the amount of time they spend on work despite negative consequences such as damage to their relationships or health: "At best, they think you're a workaholic who doesn't have a life." vlog= video+blog= A vlog also known as a video blog or video log, is a form of blog for which the medium is video. It records your thoughts, opinions, or experiences that you film and publish online. "My brother has begun to vlog about his life in Thailand."
