My fall recommendation is the book I just finished today, North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. It’s like Pride & Prejudice but way darker and set during the industrial revolution and it’s just so so good. I listened to the audiobook (audible original) and it was AMAZING and also the BBC adaptation (on Netflix) is BRILLIANT. I can’t recommend it enough. Mr Thornton is a great love interest.

Try Uprooted by Naomi Novik
@julietsalvatore135 жыл бұрын
Uprooted (Naomi Novik) - Adult fantasy in a Russian setting with hilarious characters and a sentient wood Cruel Beauty (Rosamund Hodge) - Beauty and the Beast retelling in an Anicent Greek inspired world, YA (a bit confusing in the end, but very enjoyable) The Priory of the Orange Tree (Samantha Shannon) - High fantasy with dragons, a f/f romance and rich worldbuilding (so I've been told, haven't read it myself) The Rook (Daniel O'Malley) - also Adult and more modern fantasy, tells the story of a woman who wakes up surrounded by dead bodies with no memories of her life up until that point The Darkest Part of the Forest (Holly Black) - YA, also takes place in our world, in a sleepy little town plagued by faeries, features a horned prince Carry On (Rainbow Rowell) - heavily inspired/influenced by Harry Potter, but becomes its own thing after a few chapters. Also m/m romance and has technically a sequel, but can be read as a standalone To Kill a Kingdom (Alexandra Christo) - YA, protagonist is a siren set on eating the heart of a prince-turned-pirate

@SamanthaPlansandReads5 жыл бұрын
marionh69 I’ve read an ARC of the sequel and the sequel doesn’t carry on the retelling. It doesn’t follow Rhen and Harper (mostly Grey and a new character) and deals with the political fallout from all the lying Rhen and Harper did in the first one. It doesn’t drag out the Rhen/Harper romance or the Beauty & the Beast retelling aspect!
