Monty Roberts completely influenced how I deal with horses (about 70 of them). He's a genius

I'm so glad to hear someone singing Monty Roberts praises! Recently his Join-Up method has been chastised and called dominance theory from someone with a large social media audience of likely young and impressionable viewers. I tried to make a video explaining why it's not dominance theory that was not well received by said individual. It's just very disheartening that his training method can be called explitives and emotional abuse to horses to such a young audience when so many other avenues of actual horse abuse should have light shed on it by someone with more pull in the equestrian influencer world.

I love Monty Roberts! I love how he literally sat in the wild and watched how the mustangs treated each other and learned from them. Seems like the most natural way to do it- speak in a language they understand.

I love to tell the story of my own experience with joinup. It is NOT abuse. It is communication. I had studied Monty's methods but doubted myself too much to try them. I was lungeing my pony one day in a roundpen. Just free lungeing you understand, not even trying for joinup. Bucky started giving me all the signals. I couldn't believe it could be that easy! This was his idea, not mine. I turned away and lowered my shoulders like Monty described. In less that half a second Bucky was behind me! It was like he'd been waiting for this moment. There was no force, no dominance. It was the most incredible moment of my life, and even now thinking of it brings happy tears to my eyes. I walked around the round pen to do follow up, and he shadowed every move I made and stuck so close to my side we may as well have been one being. He was completely loose in the pen. Every moment of it was his choice. Nothing could be farther from force. We'd barely started working that day, so he wasn't worked to exhaustion, and I know he wasn't drugged. It was everything Monty claimed it is.

Just went to ThriftBooks dot com and picked up a copy of Eighty-Dollar Champion based on your recommendation! Looking forward to reading it :-) I think the other two books might be a bit too much of tearjerker for this mama right now ;-)
