The old bikes had lots of torque. So much more torque that you could have to fat people on it and you wouldn't feel a difference. New bikes are nice but old bikes are like solid tanks, something you want to have.

lol nice vid I have a 1988 gsxr 750 and love riding it... its not as fast as newer sports bikes, doesn't handle quite as well but it has character and although low down acceleration is not phenominal once you have 7000 rpm on the dial the world becomes a better place, with that sweet exhaust snarl ringing through your helmet. For sheer fun, its hard to beat

my 750cc, first model, had a weight of 176kg, not that much, and in RR version, a lot got stripped, and tuned up to 150HP, with custom parts. The first model did had a drawback, but by putting in the swingarm, from the newer model, or get the part for free, from Suzuki, that problem was solved. This model was known to be very responsive on it's gas, as far, that an 1100 could have some trouble. Handling of the bike was great, and I knew all models up to 2000 first hand. I really loved that one..

Well spotted with the extended swing arm, an extra 350cc is no small thing either. I was rooting for the 750 cos I still ride one. I did in 11.98 sec on mine about 5 years ago with stock everything including pipes and 150,000km plus on the engine. Great bike, cheap thrills, will do it up one day and maybe slip a 1100 motor in it.

It would be great if u do a 7/11 swap on your 750,or 7/12 from the oiled cooled bandit,but that isn't the original swap,nor it rolls the tongue haha,that kind of tunes are unfortunately almost extinct...somebody should keep them alive and recorded...

@cpgixxer A old gixxer with a 1216 kit, cams, and carbs will roll on any newer one. Not in the corners but down easily in any type of drag race. The motors sat way up front on them making them ideal for launching. Go to any track in the counrty and you will still see older gixxers romping on new bike (including busas and ninjas). And FWI I own a 1990 750 and have some minor work done to it. I have pulled on liter bikes with it in a straight line so never underestimate the old school gixxers.

Wish I Had videos of when my stock looking but cammed and ported GSX750E 82 went streetracing. It almost kept up with 750 SRAD :-) I just have to get my hands on a old GSX1100R before they get to expensive

@cpgixxer you're right about the weight and handling, but the older bikes have a real fat torque curve thru the midrange.you have to rev the knackers off the newer ones.

@cpgixxer the biggest issue in drag racing (aswell in any other motorcycle sport) is the rider. and old 1100 had enormous torque. busa has lees HP than gixxer 1000 but makes up a lot with engine displacement (1300) and i never seen that stock 1000gsxr had beaten stock 1300gsxr (in a drag race) despite of it's lower HP and higher mass. even locomotive like yamaha fjr 1300 would kick ass out of 750 because it has horrific acceleration at lower rpm's.

Old gixxers WILL NOT bust any new gixxers, such a bogus statement and the fools who thumbed up his comments need a wake up call. In 88 the 1100 put out 130hp, the 750 in 94 put out 118 hp. A 2011 1000 puts out 184 hp and the 750 puts out 148hp, these are all crank specs. I've owned both 750's, a 92 and an 02, the newer bikes are lighter, handle better and are just plain quicker that the old models.

But it's the torque that counts, the winningest engine ever in drag racing is the old GSX EFE 1100 engine so go figure. The k4 1000 i rode was fast but just gutless compared to the oldskool suzooks!!!

@cpgixxer I HAVE SEEN WITH MY EYES '90 1100 WITH TUNED CAMS,38 OR 40 I DON T REMEMBER MIKUNIS AND EXHAUST WHICH PASSED A BUSA WITH YOSHIMURA EXHAUST AND FILTER.BUT ONLY AT 1/4 MILE. AFTER 220 KM/H 1100 SHOWS HOW OLD BIKE IS. I LIKE BUSA AND I LIKE MORE TURBOBUSA.I CAN SAY THAT IS THE ONLY NEW BIKE WHICH I LIKE.THERE ARE NO LIMITS FOR ITS ENGINE.LIKE 1100'S.........

@cpgixxer that depends on where you live. the US for example got the restricted models, they run on the same ptwr as japan, france n canada I THINK, whereas other random EU countries got the 'full power' i've worked alot on the oil cooled series, 400-1100 and the comparable difference between a spanish model and a US import is huge. with minimal engine work the old 90's bikes make a total fuss of more recent models, just like the 98 r1 still rips the tits off its succesors. emission laws.

i have seen some 1100s which passed hayabusas and other bikes at 1/4 mile.The old gixxers have torque and this is good for accelaration! but the new models are lighter and have much bigger top power and much better aerodynamic.i believe that one good driver with 1100 can pass a new model.but after a 1/4 mile there is no posibilities..........

@cpgixxer THE PHILOSHOPHY OF GSXR WAS ALWAYS THE BEST BIKE FOR THE ROAD WITH TECHNOLOGY FROM THE RACES. NOT THE DRAG RACES!!! I AGREE WITH YOU THERE IS NO ONLY 1/4 MILE. NEW MODELS 600 ARE THE BEST FOR CORNERING. YOU CAN USE THEIR POWER MUCH BETTER THAN A NEW 1000. 1100 ISA DINOSAUR..... I COMPARE 1100 WITH NEW BIKES ONLY FOR THE STRAIGHT LINE

@cpgixxer ok, well first if you take the GSXR 1100 out and make a 7/11 and bore and stroke it out, then add stages 4 jet kits it has over 400hp to the rear tire. not only that, but to make it just crazy stupid add a 1/2 bottle of nos to it. then lets see if your new little bikes can keep up.

@cpgixxer Well no shit stock to stock no chance. That a simple matter of technology and weight. However, if you don't want to be like every other street bike on the road: Find an older well known bike (like a gixxer) for around $2500, spend another $1500 on it and for $4000 bucks you will have a bike that stands out and WILL roll on all the brand new $7500 motorcycles. Half the fun is turning heads.

Why not just take a gixxer 1000, take two 1000's and fuse them together. Run it on Jet fuel and add 6 turbo's with 10 superchargers and install 2 JATO pack's on the back. Build a magnetic rail and shoot the bike down the 1/4 mile and then at the end run it to as fast as it can go then hit the JATO pack button and launch the bike into space, circle the moon and then burn it all up re entering the atmosphere doing mach 20. Ya man!!!

@panaras1100 with tuned cams isn't stock AND 1/4 mile times are BS for the most part, there are a pile of factors , rider, weather, track, tires etc. One day the 1100 may beat the busa, switch riders and the busa beats the 1100, they are both close bikes BUT lets face it, bikes weren't made to do the 1/4 mile, they were meant for cornering on superbike tracks, put the 1100 against a modern day 600 and it will lose all day.

@KidVahinko I live in North America and can't comment on european emission laws, just like I can't comment on 2 different BMW's beating each other in a race, one from NA and one from EU. I'm speaking strictly on what was sold to North America.

Ok.lets get something straight what you see is not a 1988 Gsxr 1100 but the pig of an 89. in 1988 the 750 went to the slingshot design while the 1100 J model remained the slab side with the sought after sling shot paint scheme ! now that thats straight. new bikes are the derivative of the old school repliracers, regardless I have spanked many a newbee on 1000cc of gxr or CBR or of ZX fame with a stage III 1987 Gsxr1100, so in conclusion, its not the steed but the rider……..Amen to Dat !!!

LMFAO, somone please tell them when the motor POPS like that, its past the plain of making HP and TQ, learn to HEAR and FEEL your bike if you do that it will last long long time, and will give you quicker times, man i CRIENG everytime i watch that

@cpgixxer seasoned rider ofc...but put two experienced riders on these two and then you can see advantage of torque on busa over the horse power of gixxer 1000...same rule applies for old gixxer 1100 compared to a high HP bikes with more than 200ccm lower displacment. ZZR 1400 hass less HP then busa but again on the drag strip ZZR has proven itself superior

@toaccgiadb @toaccgiadb What does Carbon have to do with the conversation? If you are trying to say carburetted vs injected, carbs are inaccurate and require maintenance and synchronization, injection doesn't. How many things do you see made with carbs today, weedwackers and chainsaws. Bikes- even harley davidson has gone injected. The only carb bikes worth mentioning are dirt bikes and we all know they aren't speed demons. Google FI vs carb, FI is just better to make HP with

i own a gsxr1100w 94 model ive raced my mates gsxr1000/ 08 model,,by the way mines a fighter ,my 1100 and only weighs 209ks fully loaded b4 me,and he only beats me above 225ks ,otherwise its a fair dinkum side by side drag race,my 1100 is 154hp standard ,b4 the stg 3 dyno kit,exhaust work etc,and it eats older 1100 oilers 130 hp,for brekky fella,,@enzoite

My 94 1100 puts out 172 at the wheel. Dyno tested and validated 3 times. You can check it at gixxer.com in the watercooled section. Though to be perfectly honest. I've got thousands of work into the engine, transmission, weight reduction modes, aftermarket Titanium,carbon, ect. So I'd not put mine in the same classification as your average mid 90's 1100..haha
