Hey there Mike. Those Patè servings tend to hold up pretty well. A lot of the more eastern European armies have then in circular tin foil packs. I bought a load from a supermarket "Polish/Romanian" themed aisle and have opened them.up well over 4 years out. Its punctures in the packaging to keep an eye on. Anyhow, id better get into these 2018 fray bentos pies thatve been languishing in my workshop for years!!

Hi...Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, I've had many over the years in Russian, Polish, Latvian and many other Eastern European rations. Most do survive well like you say. They do tend to be in bigger packs though, so I'm wondering if its these tiny packs that is the problem?....As for Fray Bentos pies, I love them!...Steak and kidney every time. Not a fan of the newer flavours like the curry and vegetable variants....ATB...Mick

Heloooooooooo my friend. Cool components and Breakfast. Very large packet of food. Never brag on A spork, LOL. My luck. The Breakfast looked tasty. Shame on the taste of porridge and Pate. Age takes its toll, like on us, LOL. Glad you survived part 1. Maybe part 2 will be better. I wish you luck Brother. Stay safe. Peace, John.

One good thing you can say about the U.S. rations is the spoon is great. The pate is something I don't think I would like even if it is fresh. I'm surprised the freeze dried food expired so soon. I have some meals that expire in 2025. They have no milk products in them to go bad. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Scott....Thanks for watching and commenting...From my videos you can probably tell.... I'm a big fan of the US spoons!. Certainly one of the strongest (if not the strongest!) out there. I have 3, just off shot (while filming) and they are probably 3+ years old now (and still used in nearly every ration I film). All of the others I get join the ever increasing pile of "still sealed" spoons. Like yourself, the dried porridge being bad surprised me?....Probably the milk or palm oil it contained?....A little spoiler!...Part 2 has some more surprises too!...Lol...ATB...Mick

I'm not a fan of porridge, but I'd have definitely enjoyed the muesli. You're braver than me, I'm not sure I would have tried the tuna patè even if it was in date, lol. I do like patè, just not sure about fish patè. There was a huge amouht of food in that ration. Its a shame they are so expensive these days, as I would like to try one. Great part 1, Mick. I'm looking forward to part 2. :)

Hi Christine....Thanks for watching and commenting....I'm no fish pate lover either (even less so now..Lol) strangely, it had no smell?...It should have smelled completely rotten?...Very odd! Thankfully the taste very quickly let you know. Ration prices are rocketing and that's why I'm going back through my old stocks and getting through some older ones I have lying around. Currently, British & French 24h are priced ok (for 3 meal packs) and Lithuanian & US for single meals. Everything else is seeing big price increases from my usual suppliers?....ATB...Mick

Nice vid Mick :-) Did you get this from Kidderminster? I got about 6 of these from the surplus store near the railway station about 4 years ago. I think he had loads of cases of them in his stock.

I brought it from a seller on Ebay, but he did have a few for sale at the time (so could have been from the same guy)..They were just on its best before date , so I got it reasonably priced. I then put it in my stock pile and forgot about it until recently. How was yours? did yours's hold up ok? ....ATB...Mick

Ah OK - I think that store does sell on Ebay so maybe 🙂 Just curious now - do you know the store in K I mean? I polished mine off ages ago Mick so they were all good. They were and still are pretty amazing rations.

Hi...Thanks for watching and commenting... The weird thing was...the pate didn't smell bad?. It just shows you need to use all of your senses, because one could let you down!. The porridge was a real surprise and I really expected that to be ok (just like the muesli). The oats were ok, it was maybe the dried milk or palm oil in it?...ATB...Mick

Yeah im always aware of dried milk in freeze dried stuff, that Voyager Muesili in the RCIRs never fares well once they are out of date.@@MichaelGreenReviews

Hi...Thanks for watching and commenting....Unfortunately, many rations are only released for sale through military surplus stores when near their best before dates. I suppose its either that or the govts. have to throw them away to make room for newer, fresher stock. Luckily, most are still good to eat for a few more years but this one was not stored as good as it should have been and had suffered...ATB...Mick

Hi....Thanks for watching and commenting....To be honest, I expected the pate to be bad, But when it had no smell, I thought It would be ok....Until I tasted it!...Lol..... The total surprise was the Porridge! With that being dried, I was sure that it was going to be good!....Goes to show you cannot take anything for granted with MRE's....ATB...Mick

I doubt this contains real pate. as with most army rations it will contain something that resembles pate in a tin that will be closer to cat food than real pate

Hi.....Thanks for watching and commenting.... Anything that is shelf stable and meant to last at least 5 years is unlikely to be shop fresh, real food. Overall, most ration food is pretty good and usually the pate tastes similar to "off the shelf" supermarket stuff. Unfortunately in this instance, it was just a little too old...ATB...Mick
