That has not kept me from looking for them however. So far, Ft. Knox, and Ft. Campbell in Kentucky, is not releasing any to my local supplier. Online, $20.00 ea. plus shipping, U.S. I will wait, LOL. When you post, we shall watch friend. If you need me, message or Email me. Peace, John.

Hi John, I know what you mean about the packaging on the new rations! I think the US is trying to cheapen the Ration prices all the time. I noticed its uncommon to get both a coffee and cold drink in the same pack now? the last few of the newer ones I've had seemed to have either / or, but not both? I'm also sure the new idea of lightening and compressing the new pack also means components have been removed as part of the process....I will certainly find out as I try the 2024 menus...ATB...Mick

I would say Spanish rations are not good at all. No bread/crackers, but they include jam. No chocolate, no biscuits, no nuts, no beverage. The quality of the food is subpar, in my opinion. Rather than a Spanish army ration, I'd rather go to Pound Store. The breakfast menu is also pretty dull. The best part of the ration is the packaging.

I have not seen "CampingGaz" butane tanks in America, since the late 1970's - early 1980's. And then, they were pre-screw on tanks! They had a puncture & seal method of tapping the gas tanks.

I hope you are doing well Michael. I just managed to snatch 5 British rations for a fair price, from a seller in Norway no less, not often I find people here selling them, that was pretty cool. They are 2019 pack date '24 hour Cold Climate Ration Pack'. The packaging refers to them as both CCR and Cold Climate ORP, so I don't know which one to call them 🤷♀ I know you have a lot experience with British rations so here's a question if you are able to answer: The mains are freeze dried but how do you suppose the rest of the contents have faired? Most of the items have a Best Before date in 2022 & 2023.
@MichaelGreenReviews2 ай бұрын
Hi. I'm currently ok thanks. Like you say, the freeze dried meals will be good for years to come. The other contents will depend on the storage conditions (which unfortunately we very rarely have knowledge (or control) of? Fortunately, the other items have "Best" before dates and not "Use" by dates so will also be good to eat for many years past their dates (but might become sticky or soft) and remain edible. When I was serving (back in the 80's and early 90's) We were told they were designed to last up to 10 years (in case of nuclear attack and before food would start to grow again?) That was of course was the older, boxed, versions but I'm sure the modern (less protected) brown bagged versions will be ok for a good few years also. I have reviewed 15 year old (Boxed) British rations and they were still ok (just well past its best). I personally have found the coffees, creamers and sugars are the first to suffer in the new brown bags (becoming damp and clumpy). So, all you can really do is hope they were stored well and try a couple. Overall, I think you should find most of the contents still ok for another year or two? Hope this helps a little? and you have some well stored and enjoyable finds.? Let me know how they faired when you have tried a couple....ATB....Mick

@@MichaelGreenReviews This definitely helps indeed! :) The rations I got have been stored in a cellar, that together with this information leaves me pretty confident that they will be good for a while still. Thanks a lot for the detailed and informative reply! I remember watching your video of the 15 year old ration that was stored in your shed, I'm still amazed at how well that ration held up! I'll make sure to post another comment whenever I try one of them! Hoping to try one out on a trip in the woods soon.

Different cost is due to different fuels, and thicker steel to cope with higher pressures of propane mixes. Not all gas out at the same temp. If camping cold, you will find n-butane is going to stop working since it only becomes a gas at 1C, but don't forget, the process of gassing out lowers the temp (note the can getting colder than ambient). isobutane will cope with about 10C lower temps and a propane-isobutane mix about 40C lower. And all of that is at sea level, it's worse at altitude! Shorter story, if you will be camping at anything under 5C in the morning, and at any altitude you'd be crazy to use butane instead of isobutane or a propane mix.

Much of this Polish freeze-dried breakfast ration appears to have been intended to prevent scurvy by heavy quantities of fruits and fruit essences, and drinks. Polish cuisine, like much of Eastern Europe, or Europe in general, is heavily meat-based with potatoes and bread but obviously lacking in vegetables and vitamin C. This breakfast menu intends to make up the deficit. The only meat product is the dried beef stick, to provide at least a token meat product to the Polish diet for breakfast. Probably the hardtack biscuits were meant to go with the beef stick. I came back to add that this breakfast menu provides a healthy intake of fiber, which is often missing in heavy meat and potato/bread diets.

@soobz3 ай бұрын
If it's a butane or iso-butane can it would be very dangerous to fill with propane as the can is not built to cope with that vapour pressure which is well over double.

They get the job done. Just enough to survive on. I would think these could be suplimented with what ever could be found or cooked. Water is given out along with these if drinkable water is scarce. They are vegetarian wich makes them universal. Newer ones have sunflower butter rather peanut butter as to lessen the likelihood of allergies. Some also have smoothies for the young or elderly to consume. Frankly they are fairly well thought out and made to minimal spec to do the job. For the price and contents these are a great value. Some cases with some age can be as cheap as 36 dollars. That's 3.60 For a days worth of food. Not bad. I've had a 14 year old hdr and it was all edible. Other than very brown fig bars and a little dryness in the mains( easily curable with some hot water added) it was all good considering its age.

Do you sometimes cook or at least warm up your food before eating? The buckwheat groats with pork stew turnes into a delicious meal when warm and the aromatic sauce becomes fluent and thin. It is one of our national dishes and is often accompanied with the ground cucumbers pickled in brine or the cooked beetroot mash with horseraddish. The cucumbers which are not fully pickled yet, say after three days of sitting in brine are called "littlesalty" and are very tasty, without too much sourness in them. This kind of food is often eaten in Poland and Ruthenia. A variant of that meal is cooked with thin beef slices, hammered and seasoned before, than shortly fried on a hot pan with chopped onion than long stewed in a sauce togehter with a set of fine oriental spices from India: nutmeg, allspice, black pepper, red pepper, bay leaves and our domestic juniper seeds. Finally, after the meal is ready, the sauce is cooled down and enriched with 18% sour cream than brought to boil for a moment before serving. The European silk and amber trade routes crossed in Poland, therefore since about some XVI century the Polish cousine in based on oriental spices too. Enjoy your meal :).

This kinda screams "supplement this with with other things". Is very accessories heavy, not that much actual food, just mains. I guess the idea is that you take this single meal ration along with some supermarket food and use it as 24h ration, making use of esbit stove for other things, making use of toothbrush ect. So you get this throw in like 2 instant ramen packet and can of beans and call it a day.
