어릴때 시골에 가면 여기저기 다 연꽃밭이었는데 할아버지가 연밥이라고 맛있다고 해서 꽤 간식으로 먹었었죠 그런데 티비에서 건강에 좋다고 하고나서 사람들이 싹 뜯어가는바람에 2~3년만에 그많던 연꽃들이 전부 사라져버렸었던 기억이 있네요

Makhana are actually the seeds of prickly lily, also called Fox nuts. While popcorn is indeed what the name suggests, it's corn/maize or makka/bhutta in Hindi, which has been popped (burst) due to heating in a closed container. So makhana, popcorn and Lotus seeds are actually 3 quite very different things.

awee I used to eat these all the time. Now-a-days I can't find anyone selling it anymore. I've never seen lotuses this big before tho. If the seed is too small to have any meat inside, me and my friends try to cracked it with our fore heads to see who makes the loudest crack The middle of the seed is really bitter so it's better to crack it open and take out the green part inside first.

@Sonu g Makhana are quite different from Lotus seeds actually. Those are harvested as seeds of prickly water Lily and are also called Fox nuts, and are roasted to form the puffed Makhana available in the markets. But yes, both are very delicious n healthy in their own right! ^^
