Ala mode is actually French for, " In the fashion or style of..." Americans just co-oped it to mean pie-topped-or-served-with-icecream. At the time it was the fashion. Remember the band Depeche Mode? Their name literally means Faster Fashion! Just some goofy trivia.
@TabiEats3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh thank you for that. I like learning stuff like this.
@simonmoore23802 жыл бұрын
It’s not “faster”. Depeche Mode took their name from a French magazine. The most appropriate translation of the name would be something like “Fashion update”.

Guys, we really love crepes!! Blue Seal Ice cream here in Okinawa has many different types of crepes. Most of their crepes have fruit and ice cream. I remember like 20 years ago, they had crepes with sausages and tuna. Thanks and take care guys!!

My first introduction to monja was because it's the favorite food of Kero from Cardcaptor Sakura! So even though it was years before I knew what it really was, there's some nostalgia attached from my childhood favorite show.

How funnnnn! I love love Asakusa! I have so many fond memories of the shops there, even 30+ years later!! Especially, Ningyoyaki--my all time favorite!! The places that you boys showed us, are definitely going on my bucket list. Especially, the kibi dango. They're so small and kawaii ne! The mentaiko monjamon is right up my alley. I LOVE mentaiko! Brother Satoshi..... Please recreate the "Dom Dom Burger" on your channel!! Korroke with potato and ground beef is a very close second to my favorite menchikatsu. Making a burger using korroke is something that I know I would enjoy. Thank you both for sharing the amazing food(s) of Asakusa. That purin crepe looks too pretty to eat--almost fake, like the plastic foods of Japan. :)

I always love the ice cream shops they have in asakusa. But I didn't know the gelato shop. looks delicious! And near the shinto shrine there is a green tea store that's good :) but i realize I usualli stay to the right of nakamise dori (and the shotengai crossing it) when you look on the map. I should check out the other side when I'm back. I need to try the senkara; I love senbei. It's one of my favourite snacks. Also perhaps interesting idea to try making at home? Have you ever done a video on monjayaki? Perhap an idea to do a video about it? the tsukishima area is nice and usually not too busy (even in normal times). There are some nice cafes there as well Unless you go to the festival that is held in July. besides monjayaki you can still find some tsukemono shops selling tsukudani there. It's the area that style of tsukemono originated.
