Speaking of leaks I bought a double hump headed small-block. It had a 3/8 hole drilled right through the head for alternator mounting previously. It never leaked in the hole, painted orange with permatex in the hole didn't even know it was there.

Here's a thought you could plug it off. and use the jegs bolt on universal all aluminum oil filler cap with a screw on all aluminum lid with a rubber o-ring and everything you need. it's what I have used. it's actually a very nice quality piece and no leaks at all.

Would you suggest a blueprint motor and if so which one I was looking at the 427 carburator.. it's going in an 85 square body p.u. any information from you would be helpful ❤️

I have really been waffling between this and the 427 LS7 to replace the LS6 in my 2004 Z06... The sound of the 454 gets me and so does that little extra displacement, it looks on average the LSX 454 is more affordable as well. Thoughts on the differences between the two?

A power adder or nitrous might blow the oil cap off possibly I've seen it on small and big block Chevys. Of course small and big block Chevys don't have that's tight of a ring seal as the ls does with those thin rings they use.

What I want to know is how come when it comes to the LS engines the 427cid is all the craze when you can buy an LSX 454cid and as the saying goes if you have more cubic inches you can make more HP which really in today's world is not that true as long as you start with a good platform and good internals and good machine work then you'll make good HP but me personally if I had the money to build a stout small block instead of running a 427cid LS I would run a 454cid LS with either a huge single or twin big turbos or if I was building a nitrous engine I would go as big as 496cid because nowadays people are building over 500cid LS engines with 2-3 kits of nitrous and if I was building a Procharged engine then maybe go with either a 427cid or bigger with a big crank driven Procharger but if I was building a SBC than it would be either 427cid or 434cid and if I was building a BBC than I would build a 540cid or bigger preferably 572 or 632cid nitrous turbo or blower

Sound like good combos, we think alike striker motors have a faster piston speed making power at a lower RPM like for my trucks, however short smaller base circle big bore spins up and sings at higher RPM making for good circle track and the like depending on your preference. Good stuff 👆🏆

Good Info. In the GM specs, it specifies forged crankshaft (and forged pistons) for the LSx376 B15 exclusively and Cast (both crankshaft and pistons) for the B8. While I understand that the B8 has regular Gen4/LS3 Rods, does the B15 have LSA Rods then ? Do you happen to know the Rod lengths on the LSx376 B8 and B15 ? Are they just standard GM off the shelf OEM length 6.098" (for the LSA and LS3 Rods) or are they in fact 6.125" ? On paper, the LSx376 B15 is an INCREDIBLE deal and other than swapping the Rods and Rocker Trunnions, it would be pretty much perfect for a big boost application/street race application on a budget for something half decent and reliable.
@jasonlevitt
@jasonlevitt 2 жыл бұрын
Both the B8 and B15 use the 'forged powder metal' rods just like the LSA. The B15 uses a forged piston, while the B8 uses a cast piston. Rod length on both is 6.098. The B15 will handle 20PSI all day. Just keep it under 7500rpm and it will last a long time.

It gets into specking out every single part like before….70s engines that’s why Merlin, dart , Brodix and even Vic Edelbrock started making their own blocks for improved reliable runs at the 1/4 mile track. Now they run 1/8 mile because the speeds are to high with these LS engines 👍🏆 that is unless one has the funds to run with the big dawgs. Hence 489 proline no water jacket 50# boost ect…

@@thechosenone8374 if you want a brand new motor it’s gonna be around or upwards of 15k, to get a messed up one and rebuild it would be around 6k-8k installation would be around 2500-5000 depending on what you want to put it in and how hard it is to marry the motor to the essential parts, and whether you’d have to get new parts to replace incompatible parts. It could be a lot of money, i recommend finding a local mechanic you trust that won’t rip u off to do the job for u if u otherwise can’t do it ur self (no shame in that) just be careful because a lot of these motherfuckers are robberies. I’m in queens so be mindful that prices may be different where you are (ease of access to parts, differences in taxes and pricing due to location, etc.) Edit: BTW this is if we’re talking about the 454 lsX variant. The numbers vary greatly depending on displacement and variation (LS1-LSX)

My dad has a 73' c3 corvette stingray, lsx454 swapped. It is extremely fast and torquey... sadly it is burning oil :( puffs abit of grey smoke especially after shifting up a gear say close to red line. Do you think the rings are gone? It has barely done 5,000 miles!

@GlassTopRX7
@GlassTopRX7 3 жыл бұрын
The engine will cost you more than the car is worth. A LSX 454 complete is just shy of $15k. Because demand is really high for all big bore LS engines, a low mile LS3 can go for $6k used. If you really want to do a swap on your car I would look for a smaller LS. You get them for under grand with everything you need used. Then choose your boost even it peaks lower the additional low end torque will likely make it as quick if not quicker for about half as much. Also you can get a '15 ZL1 for around $36k.

Why not just purchase a lq4 /lm7 engine from a junk yard for 700-1000 dollars. The lq4 is a 6.0 liter truck version of the ls2. It has a iron block with is great for boost. They sell a 408 stroker kit , which is the poor mans ls7 build. Upgrade the heads, and intake manifold, you can easily have a 600-700 naturally aspirated car. Add a turbo and a th400 and your flying. Just keep in Mind you need to upgrade the read end to hand the power. Maybe add bigger brakes. The suspension might need to be upgraded to handle the extra weight upfront. Add a sticky wide tire so you don’t run over crowds of people.

I know this was a year ago but the money you’d spend on a motor swap tranny swap rear end swap and ecu would cost as much as just buyin an SS with all of it already done and you’d have a warranty with it.. almost no point in doing it even if the car has sentimental value
