I spent 2 years driving a mixer. I can tell you the slump/wetness of the concrete is a major factor in finish. Contractors want it wet because its easier to work, but the wetter the weaker. Thanks for the video!!!

Thank you for detailing the problems that you experienced. We are in the planning stages of having a building built and I'm really not looking forward to build process. I just dread running into issues for something that is costing a lot of money. It is sad that you have to stay on top of people to make sure they do what they are being paid to do. It is amazing how contractors will cut corners or just flat not do their job when the customer is not watching. Wish us luck! Very nice channel by the way.

I would have them back with a diamond grinder to clean up all the foot prints and leaf makes and rain spots. For me a finished floor needs to be polished to make sweep up easy.

We manufacture and erect steel frame buildings in the UK , Having looked at quite a few videos of these builds in the states I would say our methods and standards are way ahead and the building would always be erected on separate foundations with the floor slab being installed in the completed building so no weather issues

What was the final resolution with the contractor? I'd be pissed with those boot marks.

Maybe someone has mentioned this already but no rebar? Concrete wants to crack and it needs something to bind it together.

I'd be worried about the concrete cracking and separating where the "footer" meets the floor without any rebar.

It has the new fiber in it but I agree it’s definitely a long term concern

Looks like there will water leaks because the steel butts up to the concrete but does does not fit below and outside the concrete. Pad should have been the exact size of the building so the steel panels fit below the pad allowing the rain to run to the ground not in to the building. Yes my building has leaks like that.

Most of my experience with contractors of all trades: plumber, electrician, carpenter, mason, ceiling installation, land scaping has been bad. They line up more work than they can handle, can't make an estimate causing them to rob Peter to pay Paul, and when they fall behind on the job, they rush and half ass it. My property needs windows, and I'd like to install a metal one or two car garage but I'm talking myself out of it. These people are the worst to deal with, and they can only blame themselves for the lousy reputation the trade business has. Sorry to vent, but I watched the video, and I understand how these so called professionals can make you feel cheated and regret you called those jerks in the first place. They got paid and you did not get the finished product you paid for.

Next time your concrete truck gets stuck get a couple of bags of lime put it around the tires and lay a strip of lime where you want to go.

I am also in Virginia, around northern neck and and in the "research" stage at the moment in deciding on a building but definitely want a cement slab. The metal building company is telling me that the slab doesnt need to be down first.. but seems to me it should be. Problem i am having is finding a company that can do the slab.
@YorkRiverCannabis
@YorkRiverCannabis 2 жыл бұрын
The slab should 100% be down first. I thing a wood pole barn would be the exception to that rule. Companies are hard to find. I am in the middle peninsula so not much help on contractors that side of the Rapp.

The boot prints should have been taken care of with cement when they did the finishing, now you can use a portland and sand mix with a bonding agent or "thin set" to go over them and you will not see them expect the color difference or when you paint the floor. Looks like a lack of experience with the finishers. Good luck with you endeavor.

No rebar. No vibrating. No screed rods. Concrete scheduling was f*cked. Dude. Where were these guys trained, in a third world country? Hopefully it holds together for you. You're going to be driving on it. The ground prep appeared to be done sufficiently. Tip for the future. Don't even concern yourself with the lowest bid when it comes to concrete. You might end up with a crew of illegals. Because when it's done, it's cast in stone, as they say. Hopefully it has held up for you.
