Great reaction! I think, as you mentioned yourself, it's about time you learnt the language. You can start by saying "Baba aab daad = Dad/Father gave water". At least, that was the first sentence we learnt to write in our Persian language class in school. It can't be that difficult, even 2-3 year old Iranian kids can speak it :D. But jokes aside, It is surely going to be a hard language to learn for you, but probably worth it.
