Thank you so much, Dora! With inflation taking over the household budget, I'm looking to make more things myself, to save money. Body wash, among other things, has become so expensive. This looks simple, fun, and could be a huge money saver for my household. Really great idea! Just finished grading up some soap, and am excited to get started.

I got so excited when I saw this video, it looks so thick and luxurious. I am a cold process soap maker and seller, and i thought it might be a way of using up off cuts, and beveling shavings etc. I have just tried it with a Santa soap that didn't sell, and it looked lovely when they mixed (it was a red and white soap) it made such a pretty pink, but alas, it hasn't got thick at all, it has stayed a really thin mixture, so it doesn't look like it will work with my recipe. Oh well a bit of a shame but keep up your amazing videos, you are such an inspiration to me, and do some very inventive products.

Helen!!! I haven’t heard from you in a while. Glad to hear from u! You can still save it! Add a bit of crothix… or try adding more soap & less water! My point here is that u can DEFINITELY save it!!!
@handcraftedbyhelen19632 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying Dora, I have been quietly watching all your videos and taking it all in. I wondered if I could just add more soap, or use a thickener, we cant get crothix here, but wondered about xanthum gum. I will give it a go, the other thing I am going to try is using it in a foaming pump bottle (have to get one) and see if it worked in one of those. I will keep trying 💜💙💚
@CreativeBathLab2 жыл бұрын
@@handcraftedbyhelen1963 you have the right attitude for sure! Yes! 1. Try adding more soap. If it doesn’t work 2. Try a thickener- any thickener. Doesn’t have to be crothix. Believe me, it can be saved! The first 3-4 batches I tried with dove Olay & caress didn’t thicken at all. Then I added more soap & voila, worked like a charm!

@@x1dlI know this is long overdue but yea I did end up trying and failed. But after research on the bars she got the best results from I found the reason is because they are not actual soap, they’re beauty bars. So they’re made of surfactants rather than being actual soap made using lye and oils.so being that it was made of surfactants mainly is why it was able to come out a body wash like that.

So, just as Handcrafted by Helen had issues, I have had the same. For one- my water/shaved soap wouldn't come to a boil at all. It just stuck to the bottom of the pan and burnt. Now it seems to be a mess. I transferred it to another pan (tried to pull out as much of the "burn" as I could) and added more water- Still no boil just wanted to burn. So I finally took it off heat and now trying to figure out what to do or how to save it
@Helenjojoful Жыл бұрын
The author of the video most likely is using a syndet type of soap which is not technically a soap. It's a combination of surfactants, thickeners, preservative etc. Traditional soap does not need a preservative because the pH is so high. Either way you'd be better of without making this recipe because there are so many potential issues that I don't even know where to start.
