Aloha! I did the half-recipe today. I invited my 98 y/o Grandma to sit in the room while I put the recipe together (far from the lye+water mixing). I set up this video for her to watch at the same time (with captions on). She was very surprised to see the soap in the molds... she even asked me if I was going to put it in the oven to cook 😄 (dementia sometimes has a sense of humor). I let her feel the warm bottom of the mold and told her I already cooked it 😉. Unprompted, she said, "Good. No need to always buy, buy, buy, at the store." I'll take that as a win. 🤙 Mahalo Miss Elly!

Just made this recipe and it turned out great! I put some coconut essential oil (about 15 drops) in the melted coconut oil before I added the lye mixture and it worked fine. I did use a stick blender and the soap was ready to pour really quickly. Beautiful white soaps (I have the same silicon molds you use in this video)! This is a super easy way for beginners to get into soap-making! Thank you!!

My son has psoriasis and olive oil soap helps a huge amount. Its cleared up loads but buying it is ridiculous expensive where i am. In a well known soap and candle shop its £10 per bar so i looked to see if i could make it. The same quantities as this but with olive oil. I now make it all the time for pennies per bar. I love watching your videos. I want to mix olive oil and coconut oil together in my next batch.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. Coconut oil produces a harder and a good conditioning soap. Pretty much the only oil that does it all for soap. Other oils do this but not that. They came out of the mold beautifully and look stunning. Great job.

I made this last night! It was my first time ever making soap! It was super easy and clear to follow! I added in a fragrance oil at the end and really sped up the trace! I start making my Own home made soaps for my accomodation, so I don’t need to buy one. Thank you for making this video. I been experimenting and my first soap, I over mixed it but it still good then now I am on my 10th Times of making different soaps and experimenting scents from essential oils and fragrance oils and also the colours of my soaps and so far so good. It cleanses skin without drying. I use 7% super fat which I find perfect, it cleanses so good and moisturizing at the same time. Normally, I used Virgin olive oil, Virgin Coconut oil, Raw and unrefined shea butter, Cocoa butter, cold pressed hemp seed oil, castor oil and OMG, it is so good, I even use it to my face. Thanks for making this video. I still always watch your video even now I know How to make soaps. Forever grateful to you Elly and to those who are fabulous soap Makers that I followed! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I Love you!

When lye mixes with oil, it becomes soap after it saponifies. As the chemicals harden, the liquid becomes a soap bar. After you cure the soap, there is no oil, water, or lye left in the soap. After you cure the soap, no lye remains in the soap. What’s left is soap, pure and simple.

This is my new favorite recipe! I have sensitive dry skin. This works the best for me and I dont know why. Coconut oil is actually good for your skin, its just more cleansing so it strips more natural oils. I use lotion anyways, but when I use this vs my half and half olive and coconut oil soap, my hands feel less dry after I use this. Maybe its just me. I also dont want my soap to leave any oily residue behind on my skin. I also hate soft bars of soap. These bars are very solid. Thats great news as thats a much cheaper bar of soap. I am fairly new to soap making and am learning you have to be careful with random recipes off the internet. Elly has become my best friend in this process. Her recipes wont let you down, or waste your expensive ingredients. And if you do make a mistake, shes got a video for that too! I would love to see how you might add colors to this recipe. I am experimenting with infusing liquid oils with things like alkanet (for purple), which works really well, and a little goes a long way, so I might have to change the recipe slightly for that. Im struggling with the soap calculators so Im about to watch her video on how to do that as well!

Hello , i loved ur video and tried making pure coconut oil soap, but, i made a mistake in my soap , that is i added only 8% superfat to my 100% coconut oil soap, it has been curing for 24 hrs till now, is there anyway i can mend it and add excess superfat? Thanks in advance

Hi from Panama. I made a batch of 100% coconut oil today. Where I am the oil is always liquid. Once I have the lye added to the water I add it almost straight away to the oil while it's still pretty warm and it emulsifies immediately. I still give it a minute with the blender just to be sure then get it into the molds. I use little Pringles tubes. A batch of 750 ml oil makes almost enough to fill four of the )1.3 Oz tubes. I leave them in the open and they will gel within the hour. Our ambient temp here is always about 82 degrees f. Next day I slice them up with an old cheese guillotine. Store them for four weeks or so then they are ready to use. Thanks for the video, it's the first time I've come across someone else doing a 100% coconut soap with no fragrance. I like the simple ones too. I got into soap making as a way of adding value to the oil my neighbour makes totally by hand in her back yard. I'm trying to convince her to do it too and earn more money from her work.

YUP!!!! I've been soaping for a while and rarely use one. I use the hot lye water to melt the hard oils/butters and use a whisk when necessary. I do have a stick blender btw, I just didn't want to be totally dependent on it.

Lovely soap!! I just wanted to mention based on my soaping experience with coconut oil soap... The soap loses .5oz water per month during the cure. Therefore, a 6-7oz soap bar, takes 4 and 1/2 months to fully cure. I don’t know why it takes sooo long for water to evaporate from coconut oil soap, but it does. It may be harsh and drying to the skin if you test the soap sooner because that lye water hasn’t fully evaporated. Just my two cents... 😻

Thanks for your comment :) The lye doesn't evaporate though, only the water. Your soap, regardless of water volume in the recipe, if made properly, should technically be safe to use once saponification is complete (which usually takes 1-2 days for CP soap).

I love your videos and am so glad I found your channel. I started making soap when my kids were little and we did not know to weigh it...early 80s. Sometimes it came out beautifully, sometimes it was quite harsh and this was before stick blenders and ph strips so we always stirred them. I remember how excited i was when I learned to use a stick blender. You can tell you are in a warmer environment. :) To get soap to gel where I live, some folks use a warm oven or a heating pad so it goes completely through gel phase. I have NEVER had a soap get too hot. Thank you so much for all you are sharing!!!

I just recently discovered you and boy am I glad I did. You seem so lovely and so are your soaps. I had to take a break from soaping the last 2 years and I am just getting back to it. Thank you for all you do I look forward to supporting you more soon. When I made 100% coconut oil soap before, for cleaning so no superfat, I put them in cleaned out previously used deodorant containers( or I've seen in the past that you can buy new empty ones). It worked quite well to pretreat stains on clothes. It made it easy to hold and use. ☺️ As a side note I just love your voice, it reminds me of Olivia Newton John and always warms my heart. 🥰💜

Oils are not interchangeable in soap recipes. If you swap oils, the lye and water concentrations need to be recalculated.

It won't take long with a hand blender, just blend until it thickens slightly. I would use 20-25g of EO for this soap, about 3% of the base oil amount :)

Thank you for a great soap recipe, I think I'll give it a try. I use coconut oil organic for my skin for years now, and it's doing very well, it's sold for a good price in The Netherlands. When I compare the price of a large pot, which lasts a quarter of a year almost, to other skin products, this is the cheapest way of skincare. I never use sunscreen or other protection in the sun, and this summer we've been in a heatwave twice, with days of 30 + degrees Celsius. I may go red but soon it's a nice tan. There's no reason whatsoever, that we should be in fear of the sunlight, that's a fairy tale.

I personally love to gel my soaps, but it's not always easy to do when they're made in individual silicone moulds. Gelling definitely brings out brighter colours in coloured soap :)

You should STRONGLY emphasize to NEVER, NEVER use anything made of aluminum. 👍 EDIT: Don't forget to allow the soap to "age" for at least 4 to 6 weeks for best results. Also, lanolin can be added to prevent drying of skin.
