Parents are responsible to provide for their kids only until they are minors according to their financial capacity. Once they are major 18+ children need to work and provide for their living expenses, higher education or what not. If they can’t afford private universities they can opt for public universities. This is practised all over the world.

If the children have attained the age of majority, they should go with an educational loan from State Bank of India to finance their higher education. My understanding is that parents would only be responsible for children's welfare provided they are staying together under the same roof, and in separation cases, it is all covered within the maintenance amount awarded to the wife. Money cannot be demanded from parents, different families have different income levels and have different lifestyle, as long as basic needs are met, the parents are not liable as such. Just my personal opinion.
