Alimony should be partially banned just like dowry or simply amended. If a woman can't provide payments for her children's upkeep, then the children should stay with the father who can take care of them. If a man is unwilling to take care of his children, then he should keep giving alimony money to his ex-wife. In case of no children, no alimony should be present. I have seen cases of a man earning 60k a month and giving alimony of 50k a month. And he was divorced because his wife cheated on him. But since court decides whether alimony should be provided for in case of alimony, the judge simply told the man to pay regardless of the circumstances. It was a fine case of moral kidnapping where a man's children were kept hostages for the man to keep giving the majority of his salary to his cheating ex-wife.

My Unpopular Opinions on Alimony. 1. Don't allow any Alimony if the wife is Characterless (if she's already having an affair) 2. Don't allow any Alimony if there's no child of the spouse. (even if there's a Child and if the wife is ready to take the custody, then only allow Alimony). 3. There must be a specific criteria for Alimony. Or a limit percentage for Alimony for example 30% of his monthly income) (For Example - If there's only 1 child then 20,000 for both wife and kid).

He can clearly ask court to set some minimum maintenance. Court is the one supposed to do that. With salary of 3L per month, court will probably not ask for more than 30% amount and even a good lawyer can fight for each and every rupee the husband has to shell out. That means the lady can not stay in a house of 1.35L rent. You get 1L rupees which is plenty enough to live comfortably.
