I think the fact that the squier even had a fighting chance, let alone winning, is a testament to how far squier has come

I own both of these bases and everything you said in your evaluation is right on. I prefer to play the squire over the Fender most of the time.

Squier hands down for me. Really pronounces the vintage tone. The modern player is exactly that, modern. Both great for different reasons but the Squier is what I'm looking for
@91cog3 жыл бұрын
Glad I was able to help out. I think that the Squier is a bit closer in design to the ‘Vintera’ fender series, which is closely based of the original variants of the Mustang Bass. Thanks for watching!

I bought the Classic Vibe version a year ago and it’s an amazing bass and killer value. I did a little minor work on the frets after I broke it in, and it plays perfectly. It’s important to get the right medium scale strings for the string-through body, even though Fender doesn’t even make any. They provide the 9050L flat wounds on the JMJ Fender version, which are also great.

Would be interested in a shootout between the classic vibe and the vintera

I went with the squier and have zero regrets. I'm putting the money I saved towards upgrades. I got an abalone pick guard. Next is labella mustang flats and then some nordstrand pickups. I'll probably find a way to add some weight to the body to reduce neck dive in the future as well.

A few years ago I ordered a Fender Player Mustang, got it, noticed a bunch of finish flaws, and returned it. Then a year or so later, I ordered a Squier Classic Vibe Mustang, LOVED IT, but ended up returning it because I decided I wanted the American Player version instead. Which I never bought. Eventually then I bought ANOTHER Fender Player Mustang, which I still own, but I'm not happy with it. Rough fret edges and a few uneven frets, loose and noisy pickup toggle switch, really buzzy J pickup. I swapped in a DiMarzio noiseless pickup to fix the latter issue, and I've used it a lot for both gigs and recording, but I am just not happy with it. I probably should have kept the Squier!
@Kosthoms Жыл бұрын
Personally I would only use the bass tones on both, so I feel that the Squier has warmer sound overall. Fender more treble in it, which is good for recording it alone, but in a mix I would prefer just the warm deep sound

Squier sounds like someone put a heavy blanket over the amp. I like a good clarity of tone to start with then you can EQ warmth into the sound. Glossy necks are a no-go for me, my thumb sticks to the finish. I like the way the Squier looks with the split pickups but if it has more sound like a modern P-bass it would win. I think a good compromise would be kinda midsized P bass and J bass pickups to fit the profile of the mustang body. That would be the ultimate 'stang bass.

I own a 2018 Mustang PJ bass and I agree, the frets are sharp. You a shouldn't have to the fret edges on a $600-ish bass to make the neck feel comfortable and not scratch up your hand. Also, there is some neck dive, which I fixed by swapping the tuners with Hipshot Ultralights. Unfortunately, nobody makes matching lightweight tuners vintage style Fender tuners. This means that installing lightweight teardrop shaped tuners will leave 16 holes and 4 tuner plate impressions showing on the back of the headstock on your fairly expensive bass. I solved this problem by hand making my own aluminum beauty plates, using the stock tuner plates as templates. If you stare at my tuners from 6 inches away, you can see that the beauty covers are hand made and don't match each other exactly perfectly, but from about 1 foot away, it's not easy to see. The Ultralight tuners made a big difference in the neck dive.

Fun and concise, another great video. The squier was surprisingly good. Did sound a bit muddy but I can't get past how the p/j set-up looks on the fender either. Would be good to hear your thoughts on a Mexican p bass Vs any/all of the squier classic vibe p basses at some point, if possible.

I agree. By the time I'm done modifying my Mustang PJ, I will have changed or worked on almost every single component. Sadly, if I had just waited about 18 months, I could've bought a Squier Mustang, and I probably wouldn't have had to do anything to it.

Dude I really do love your reviews. The intro, the shirt, the "colour palette" and the attitude (obviously the guitars too). I've got a question for you, don't you feel like the Squier's got a lame output in the E string? (can't talk about the Fender model cause I only own the Squier). I love that bass, but the output is lousy, for real, specially with that string. Please don't stop doing bass reviews cause you're amazing at it. Cheers from Mexico.

This was fun, but I think it's better to compare basses of the same price point. After all, Fender's intent is not to have Squier compete with Fender, just to get you hooked on the Fender experience and hopefully move up the ladder.

I just feel like i can always tell the difference between squires and fenders--the squires just sound more "stiff" if that makes sense. fenders have a looser slinky and groovier sound which is undeniable. it's unfortunate bc theyre so damn expensive

"The (Fender) uses better quality materials..." No it doesn't. You base that assertion what? That the Canadian maple that Mexico uses is better than the Canadian maple that Indonesia uses? Who out there (besides SRV) actually prefers ugly Pau Ferro to Indian Laurel, which is a better and better looking wood? I could mention the body wood, but why? It make ZERO difference in a solid-body electric with non-microphonic pickups, obviously. They share the same bridge made in Taiwan, and the same tuners. It is so lazy to ASSUME the Mexican has superior materials to the Indonesian. And it's wrong. Please stop spreading misinformation and learn about these things before making another video.
