Yeah this worked for my 97 as well. Same exact method. Thanks alot buddy, you got the only video out there with this process. Just a heads up for anyone about to do this procedure. I never seen a gap in the subframe UNTILL I unbolted the engine and raised it. Don't be like me and get dischouraged when things don't look like this at the beginning. When it's all said and done it will prove a successful project.

@Jake meyers I just recently discovered that I spun a rod bearing/rod knock/maybe piston slap. But I'm going to try your method to check everything
@onlycodered3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this! I recently replaced my timing chains, tensioners, and guides because the guides got all chewed up. Pretty sure there's some pieces in my pan and I want to clean those up before I starve my engine of oil. Planning on replacing my engine mounts anyway so I'll probably just do that at the same time I check the pan using your method!

Great video my man! If you follow Chilton's guide they make you take off so much more. Just swapped my oil pan today in a 02 GT this video was perfect! Ended up dropping the K member all the way anyway but still way easier then pulling the entire thing!

Did you lift the engine?
@thegreatbeans14984 жыл бұрын
@@micahbaca6589 just suspended it where it sat with a hoist, no need to lift it higher once I dropped the k member. Unfortunately didn't seem possible to lift it from underneath. If you're high on miles now's the time to do motor mounts too. Mine went out at 160k replaced with MM solid mounts feels so much better.
@micahbaca65894 жыл бұрын
@@thegreatbeans1498 yeah. I'm doing my mounts too. The guy who made the video said he lifted the transmission a little. Did you have to do that? I have an automatic.
@thegreatbeans14984 жыл бұрын
@@micahbaca6589 no, transmission stayed exactly as it was. I have a 5spd. Like I said if you just make the motor hover in place and drop the k member. shouldn't have any issues with the motor getting in the way. I had to take off the rack and pinion, since the high pressure lines were pulling tight. Don't remove the lines just unbolt it and let it hang. Other then that it's 4 bolts that hold on the k member to chassis and 4 bolts total for the shocks as you'll have to disconnect them, to lower the k member. Yours may be different. Also obviously the motor mount bolts which are like a 24mm. There's 2 total. Make sure you torque everything to spec when you're done* these bolts vibrate a lot and WILL come loose over time. I have all the torque data if you need it. Also really recommend the maximum Motorsports solid engine mounts. No more rubber never wears out. No torque flex, car hooks better and feels great on the road. Barely vibrates more then stock. Also half the cost of the stock mounts or poly mounts.

Do you need to remove the upper shock bolts ? Or can it be done with the front suspension already off from the bottom ( bottom shock bolts) I also have coilovers on my car so that’s why I’m asking I’m not sure if I need to loosen the top bolts that go with the caster camber plates

i previously did a JB weld fix over the hole but i should have put a metal plate over it instead of just layers of jb weld. it stopped the leak for 4 months, but i'm lowered and sometimes i hit the bottom of the steering rack and it cracks the oil pan , and it started leaking again, i drove w/ a leaky oil pan for 2 years (i barely found out the pan was cracked last year)

Just finished removing mine on a 2003 Cobra. While informative, this is strictly isolated to the peasant model as the deeper pan and sump won't clear your enormous T56 tremec transmission. Heart is in the right place but it's only beneficial to ppl with automatics. You won't clear the bell-housing. I had to back out all the k-member studs and that barely gave me enough room (that's with k-member spacers). It's a decent writeup for the average Joe but if you have a 4V Expect to drop the k-member and get an alignment. You can't cheat it you'll waste hours of your time.
