I have 1987 LX Hatch with a 347. I am a Chev guy, was going to put a 408 sbc with Powerglide. Decided to try Ford, built a 347 with a C4 trans and all I will say is it will eat any new Camaro, Mopar, except a Hell Cat. I have whole lot more respect for Ford products after doing this build and I hate to admit but it will rip any old big block Chevrolet muscle car apart on the street! Absolute animal show! I wanted a Foxbody because you just cannot beat them!

I run 3.27's in my car, with a 26inch tall Mickey.. I'm going though the traps in 4th gear at 120mph (about 5500rpm). The 4.30's plus the 28inch Mickey's gives this car a EGR of 4.00. That's a bit much and that's why it easily overpowers the tires. Not to sound all high and mighty, but my car breaks them loose merging into traffic at 60mph (with the 3.27's)...

Got to love the comments about the Flowmasters sounding like junk, that must be cause they are not on a ricer. I am thinking about doing a 347, how much power are you making? I have Flowmasters on my 89 with a 306 and I love the way it sounds, funny thing is even with the headers and cam it still sounds like a 5.0

+Sheena Mcdonald 347's are great for racing. street use they are not desired. suggested displacement for street use and drag strip is the 331, due to its more reliable piston skirt length. i am building a scat bottom end currently and its what my machinest said better then the 347 unless your drag racing the car. hope this helps with your decision. as to your question about horsepower, its all in what the top end and compression ratio you choose. as well as camshaft choice. hope this helps.
