You need to be very confident that the charger works to come to it with 1%

Thanks for the video of the charging rate. I didn't know that it was that low of a charging curve.
@studzstudios Жыл бұрын
The extended range battery will be slightly better (150kw peak compared to 115kw peak on my standard range), but yes, look forward to either more revisions to the curve for current gen Mach-E or higher speeds on the next generation.

How can you change charging percentage from 80% to 100% ?
@Sledgehammer1944 Жыл бұрын
Why does it have to charge at a much smaller rate when at 89%?
@studzstudios Жыл бұрын
The charging speed slows significantly at 80% and again in the low 90% range to help preserve the health of the battery. Excess heat and stress on the battery at high charge percentages will wear out the battery faster. There's also a few times in the video where I slowed down the playback speed of the video so it's easier to see the charging speed changes on the screen.

Why are you using a 350kw though?
@bangbangbowman284 Жыл бұрын
because it'll charge faster 😃

Good point and question! In the first charging session both 150kw chargers were unavailable (one was in-use by a Bolt and the other was blocked by a non-EV). In the second charging session I tried all 4 chargers at the station as I mentioned in the video since some were unusable. When everything is working properly, a 150kw charger is more than adequate for the current Mach-E hardware and a 350kw has no benefit. Best charger etiquette for a Mach-E is to use the 150kw chargers first. But given the current state of Electrify America stations, I say use the one that actually works with good speed and be willing to move for someone else if needed. (That's also why I did the charging in separate sessions so I didn't block someone who really needed the charge)

The new LFP version should do better.
@studzstudios Жыл бұрын
Yeah! Nice to see they increased the peak charging for the standard range with the LFP battery to 150kW.

How much is 15 minutes super charge?
@studzstudios Жыл бұрын
In my standard range Mach-E with ideal max charging speeds it's about $10 for 15 minutes at $0.48kWh. This number will vary greatly depending on the charging price based on location and charger company (Electrify America charging with the membership would drop this to ~$7.50) and also the charging speed. A faster charging vehicle is going to accept more kWh in the same amount of time. Here's my Mach-E in the 15-minute 10% charge challenge where I charge for 15 minutes starting at a 10% state of charge. Over an hour to fill up up your “tank” 🤦🏻♂️ I’ll stick with our hybrids.
@studzstudios9 ай бұрын
"Filling up" an EV is definitely different. If you can charge overnight at home for most of your driving, the time is less of an issue. But, if you're doing a lot of distance driving, the charge time can be a drag. The charging is getting better though, this is the slowest charging and lowest efficiency Mach-E in the original lineup.
