Dad bought me a '71 351c for Graduation! 4spd! I BURNT s valve showing off to a friend 35 ft burnout! So as a junior in h.s. I rebuilt it down to the block! Uncle Garage help si much he work on Tractors & School buses!

I had a super crush on a Polish gurl SINCE 3rd grade! I use to park the Mach 1 out front of her house. One day Rob her sister boyfriend walked out & said are you sweating my girlfriend. Her older sister was on the cheerleading squad. I told him No I was there for Debbie her younger sister! I saw Valerie as my plausible sister in law! He was big dude & he knew a GM friend. He offered to buy my School bus yellow 'Stang! I said No it's mine dad got it because we lived in a old house & the Rich kid's dad's Sux & wouldn't buy them one! I don't know the color name but I have a couple pictures color matching front bumper! Rich kids had to eat crow !

The most powerful small block of the muscle car era was produced in that very same one year only mustang, the boss 351.

yeah, its too bad that Boss 351 was not available until 1970. Really needed it from 1965 on up thru the years in Mustangs.

It was a one yr only (1971) motor and alas, Ford could have put out a better SB in the early stands but the mighty K-code 289 was an excellent performer!~@@kimmorrison9169

I had a friend in HS in the 90's that had a similar Mustang. Very confusing to me. The back seat "Green House " effect. Was something!

To this day I'll never know why the "Long Nose Mustang" was so hated by so many... By 1971 both the Camaro and Barracuda had nearly doubled in size and weight but that's never mentioned ever. Neither is the fact that the "71-73" could accept any engine FoMoCo decided to put in it. Which Mustangs can say that? Lee Iacocca even called it..."The Pig." I loved and miss my Mach. Probably even more than my 70' Torino Cobra GT.

You are right. Everything was getting larger. But it was a good looking car as a SportsRoof. Not a big fan of the coupe.

@@musclecarcampy9922 Me Neither...the Grande? hahaaha Had a good repeat musclecar customer in my body shop. He found an old lady garage kept 71 with 23,000 actual. I begged him not to paint over the factory White it just needed lightly buffed if that but that's what he wanted. Put a Centari 2000 job on it and a friend of mine saw it and bought it for top top dollar before it left my shop. They made a family car outta the 302 blue interiored Grande. Nice car but not me. It had a black 1/4 vinyl top too. Uggh!! However Convertibles were pretty kool. My Mach 1 was red with black interior and wing and chin spolier.. hahaha love it.

Put me in the “hate it” camp for ‘71 Mustangs. The ‘67 being the best looking Mustang. If it makes you feel any better GM ruined the Camaro in ‘70 and Chrystler wrecked the Cuda in 1970 as well. Your right about the higher weights thou.

​@@kimmorrison9169 Back in the day I Halftracked a buddy of mines 70 440 Barracuda with my 70 396 Nova. He stayed with me 1st part of 1st gear but by the upshift I really pulled him hard like 3 or 4 cars then in 3rd it got even worse. He had a strong running car I had stood up in it many times, so I shouldn't have beaten him that bad. But I knew it was because of the weight difference between my "little" Nova and his.....behemoth.

@@Imnotyourdoormat thats interesting because my ‘71 Nova is stripped down, weighs maybe 3200 lbs, is backhalved and mini tubbed so I have big rear tires tucked neatly in the back sitting low. Built 4 bolt main 402 With probably 475 horses and a Muncie M20 and a Ford 9” and 3:89 ratio. For a non boosted car it will rev to high and flat out goes. No fear of 440 Mopars that arn’t built to 600 HP.

A kid in my high school had one of these in dark green and white, and wrecked it, back in 1982. I wonder if that electric fan, surely for the AC condenser, is original.

Remember the hate on this gen mustang in the 70s....always liked the rear tail light panel and over time the non fastback version is an itch I wanna scratch. sb ac daily driver. Never understood why ford didnt get away from those stupid azz shocktowers. Made engines like this impossible to work on. Even decades later..

@@musclecarcampy9922 Ok getting back to you: so the large cassette in the player is the same vintage as car. And equally famous for several reasons. And appears to be in near mint condition. Here's the relevant backstory: If your buddy tossed you the keys and asked you to make a run, as soon as you sat down and put key in ignition you'd notice: Somebody left a "TAPE" in the "DECK"! That would necessitate an alternate starting procedure adding about 5 seconds. I'm 67. It became a rule back then. Before turning key to "on", reach over and turn volume to "off". Remove tape gently and hold up to ear and give it a light shake. Inspect the cassette box for any signs of moisture. Put it back in gently and snugly. Start and drive as usual. You may then if so adept start the music and adjust volume, listening for ANY peculiarities. If any present, remove tape and put with others usually in a cubbyhole or basket somewhere. Issue: Don't "eat the tape" without at least checking first lol! Beautiful 'stang!!!!! Cheers! PS I got a speeding ticket in Okinawa 1976, 100 in a 50 click zone. (military jeep) $800. Legal Officer got it washed. Told them I was a courier!

@@musclecarcampy9922 Yep! And pristine example of tape. Elektra Records insignia clearly visible. Still available on ebay. Jim Morrison died immediately after. I had first 5 albums. Never got this one. Bad mojo or just what it was back then... The 8 track platform was built with 4 Track (mono) 8 Track (stereo) and 16 Track (NO CLUE LOL!!!????) that all would fit & usually play in the deck. But the starting procedure was most important. You didn't want to "eat the tape" going 80mph lol! It made an absolute mess of the deck & interior and is a safety hazard to address at evasive speeds! This is a GEM of a presentation with these things! Congrats! Deserves an award! Cheers!
