They are so beautiful and I am about to cry after only watching the first minute and a half. Thank you so much for posting this. I do not have horses but I always have wanted one or some. I usually cry when I see or have to leave one I am around so I may just watch this a lot and dream. I assume the rest of the video is great and captures the spirit of the mustang that a lot of us have.

The Hispanic blood is palpable in these horses, amazing. Don't know why they aren't protected as landrace. The main features of a hispanic-berber horse like this are the thick neck, the convex profile of the head, small hipbone compared to the body, important musculature in a light and solid body frame.

Great video of many favorite South Steens of mine. Takes my breath away. Does anyone know what happened to Chockotay after he was rounded up?! It breaks my heart not knowing where he is. Saige is a favorite mare; Dante’, Nevada, Red Vogue, Shaman, Renegade (I follow his journey with Stacie Thomas). All favorites plus a few more in this. Wonderful video!

Hi Vonna, Glad you asked bc just today I heard that both Chokotay and Atlas are at Carson City Correctional Center in NV and both are available as SA (sales authority) to find out about them contact Wild Horse & Burro Specialist John Axtell. 👍 1 jaxtell @ blm.gov

Thank you for this video. I keep wondering how a predator prey relationship might be reestablished. Horses were domesticated far from the United States. It was common to bring horses across the ocean. Yet is seems unthinkable to bring their predators. And what were their predators? Watching zebra get preyed upon might reveal some potential predators. Cheetah. Lions. What are the similarities between lions in Africa and Mountain lions in the Americas in terms of how they hunt? Might we bring tigers to America?

I've heard it said that it's never a good idea to feed wild horses because of their digestive systems. Is that true? Sounds reasonable.
@MustangMeg5 жыл бұрын
Yes, never feed them, the range takes good care of them. And if you adopt one, very slowly transition feed, beginning with dry grass hay.

Thanks for sharing with me your wonderful videos! Often times I wondered what was going on is Southeast Oregon,now I have a good feeling about the area. As a retired wedding/portrait photographer I appreciate visiting the area via KZbin. It would not hurt to include a photo or two of yourself. It would help tell the story more completely. Are you doing people photography as well?
@MustangMeg5 жыл бұрын
I don't do people photography, just wild critters.. and the wilder the better :) I have an album in photos in my facebook fb page "Mustang Meg", and my biography. Feel free to roam through. facebook.com/pg/mustangmeg1/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10152602337608956

Please don't take this the wrong way. I think it's awesome that you video the horses out there, though I'm curious... why are you giving them names? They aren't yours. They're wild and free.. with no name given to them by humans. Isn't naming something claiming it?
@MustangMeg5 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, glad you asked. Oregon has about 17 different herd areas, and we apply "rangenames" to the South Steens to help track/identify & learn mustang behavior and understand better their complex societies. To learn about specific the mustangs, we've assigned range names rather than numbers. I work with about a dozen regular photographers and we often communicate and document them on fb page South Steens Wild Horses where mustangs have their own albums we all contribute to and learn year to year what each one... or what bands are up to. On other HMAs, we really don't apply names... sometimes a standout may end up "earning" a nickname for ease of communication among photographers, but typically, we are concentrating on this one particular herd management area. To learn more about the South Steens wild horses, visit our page and roam through the albums: facebook.com/SouthSteensWildHorses/ Thanks for the great question!
