We had hundreds of wild horses in northern Canada and lost them all to a cold winter. I wish they could all have been captured. I have 7 at the moment. They all come running to give me love every morning. They have a lot of space eat well. I think it's sad that uneducated people spit their own truth not realizing how unbearable and excruciating life can be for most horses in the wild. Our hearts are in the right place but so called freedom isn't always to be left alone. With that said in this case these horses seem to have plenty of land to find food even in the winter months will little snow. Something to think about though.

@suzanneyoung80112 жыл бұрын
They look like that because that's how they looked in the wild, and actually they probably put some weight on because they were fed good hay daily while in captivity and no longer had to run long distances to find water. The Bureau of Land Management also provides them veterinary care, gelds the stallions so they are no longer fighting each other, and provides deworming, vaccinations and hoof care, while still keeping them in their wild unhandled state until they are adopted. A life on the range is not always a good one for Mustangs. There are a number of adoption events for them held throughout the country as well as Mustang Makeover Events where professional trainers adopt them temporarily to train them for 100 days for their competitions after which the trained mustangs are auctioned off to find new homes. A well trained mustang can be highly sought after with some of them reaching prices of $10,000 or more. They live much longer, healthier lives in captivity once they've been adopted.
@mimileggett71542 жыл бұрын
Suzanne Young . Ideally yes! But they are not free. I believe Mustangs are often adopted cheaply by unscrupulous people , not taken care of and sold for slaughter! This is horrifying! The BLM may take care of them, but they need a strict inspection and follow up of the people who have adopted them to prevent this sad fate. These horrible "roundups" should be banned and our beautiful wild horses allowed to live free on our public lands.
@suzanneyoung80112 жыл бұрын
@@mimileggett7154 That may be your belief but it is strictly not based on fact. People have to apply and be approved to adopt a mustang. The BLM holds the title on the adopted mustang for one year. Only after one year do they transfer the title to the new owner. This is to try to keep unscrupulous people from adopting the mustangs. No meat buyer is going to hold onto a horse for one year before they can legally sell it. The BLM follows up on the adoptions. There are many trainers who have channels on KZbin where they feature training mustangs for the Mustang Makeover and T.I.P. Challenge events. They will drive many hours to reach the BLM Mustang Adoption facilities and will try to arrive by or before 4:00 am so they can be first in line to get their top choices of the mustangs. Some adoption events are handled as online auctions which they started doing during covid. The bidders have to be approved, and no one buys these horses in large quantities. Also, the love of the American Mustang and anything Western has a huge following in Germany. The BLM works with a German woman who has a farm in Virginia I think where she gets groups of Mustangs lightly gentled to make them safe for flying. The Mustang Makeover Germany group then flies them over at great expense in a full jumbo jet of horses as if they were expensive race horses, and the approved trainers to the Mustang Makeover Germany pick them up at the airport and then begin their 100 day makeover process. Many of the top trainers in Germany and across Europe apply to be accepted for this event annually. The event is held in Aachen to a packed crowd at the largest equine complex in Germany. After the makeover the trained mustangs are auctioned off at very high prices to their new homes. Mustang Makeover Germany has a KZbin channel showing this entire process. Some trainers speak English, but there are English subtitles on every video. Further back in the archives you will find videos of when a large group of the German officials traveled to Oregon and the BLM put on presentations for them and took them out onto the range as well as explaining to them how the helicopter roundups are the quickest and safest form of roundups for the equines and humans alike.

There was public outrage and petitions against rounding up wild horses when they were trying to do this like 5 years ago in the southwest- the gov was trying to argue something like them not being native bc the once native horses are no more (escaped ranch horses have bred with wild horses and joined their families; in addition to the fact historians believe the horses here went extinct and the Spanish reintroduced them)- but they are non-invasive bc they used to be native so it’s not like they are destroying anything... also the bureau of land management has been having issues with ranchers not paying fees to use the land (which they should be paying) and they say some of the herds are ranch horses illegally on the land- so they just want to round up all of them 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Honestly they should just punish the ranchers who are doing illegal 💩

This lady is an incredible human, i cant believe how amazing this story is! AWWWW! P.S. - one of his mares/offspring is a dapple grey (or looks very similar to one) It looks identical to my uncles horse, Dusty. I loved him soo much, he was super smart & very loveable. He knew when I was sad (my Dad passed away when i was 9) and He would actually give me tender hugs & love - he was phenomenal.

I have sign many petitions for this type of rounding up of wild horse herds to end. It is cruel to just split the family herd up. I am still involved with the petitioning also other efforts to end this type of treatment to wild horses.
@reneeburtness15262 жыл бұрын
First off it's a herd if you knew anything about horses it's a herd second Miss I'm signing all these petitions you're an idiot you're signing the petition to allow them to starve to death this is an invasive species they have no natural predators the only reason they have the foothold that they do is because of the war on native Americans and the near eradication of the Buffalo. The only potential predator they have is the wolf an endangered species if you left these animals unmanaged to their own devices they would starve to death because they are competing against a growing population of Buffalo for limited land and limited grazing opportunity Buffalo are much larger and much stronger than the horses they would simply starve if you really care about them stop signing the petition for them to starve to death

@@GynBlaise that is not true, BLM hasn't 'sold' barely any land in the past 20 years, they have bought and been given more than they sold. mining and oil do not buy land...... public land is public land - all of it was meant to be harvested, grown, farmed and mined FOR A PROFIT... this country has been lost to people who will sacrifice a piece of dirt over human lives.

Sadly there is a need for the sanctuary.. I thought they stopped doing this due to public outrage over them trying to round up wild horses (albeit that was in the southwest... I would never imagine they would do this in a state like Wyoming) - I know the gov was trying to claim they weren’t native or w/e bc a lot of them are descendants of escaped ranch horses/they also had issues with ranchers not paying the fees to use the BLM (bureau of land management) lands so there were issues separating which were wild and which were ranch horses illegally on the land (which just follow them and see and then charge the rancher and collect the pet horses)... but even if they aren’t native, to my knowledge they aren’t invasive and the wild mustang (albeit not some of the mixed breeds that now exist that are wild) is a huge American symbol 🤷🏼♀️
