Mustard & Boaty FAIL At Selling Cars

‎@Mr_Boaty and I have made some pretty big mistakes with buying cars, and we need to hit shifted to pay back the unknown banker, and to clear space in the yard.

In Latvia they put a sticky strip on their big bags of crisps so you can roll the top of the bag over and stick it shut to keep your crisps fresh. I thought there were two issues with Mustard and Boaty Sell Cars, you bought lots of cars but didn’t really sell any. And whilst for other people in the North West the old Rover market looked buoyant and fast moving, unfortunately for you though it was buoyant and fast moving because you were buying them all. Truth is not many people want an old car made by a company that died 20 years ago. If you have an Eastern European shop near you and you like beer, try Madonas Nefiltrets. It’s rather good and has the bonus of making you feel tipsy quite quickly saving both time and money. Also if you need to be 1,800 miles away and only have 4 days to get there then a nicely specced 5 cylinder diesel Volvo is an excellent choice of transportation. Perhaps if Mustard without Boaty sold Volvos we might be in a different place, especially when your business partner lops £700 off your price within 5 seconds or interrupts your pitch to denigrate the condition of the vehicle. But no use crying over spilt milk, onwards and upwards. I wish you luck with the fire sale and your next venture. And may I ask how much blathering did you cut? The obvious answer of course is ‘not enough’.

@@KarlHamiltonShaslik flavour, ridged, big bag, sticky strip to keep them closed so they don’t go soggy. €2.40 a bag but the bag is biiiiiig. I also have some spicy tomato flavour which I haven’t opened yet but I’ve had them before and they’re very good too. They too have the sticky strip. There’s also a flavour called ‘Mediterranean Crab and Exciting Spices’. These are a cross between prawn crackers and crisps and taste very much like the former but very good prawn crackers. Like you get from a very nice restaurant who has just changed their oil. I didn’t find the spices exciting, in fact they could have left the exciting spices out and the experience would be the same. And finally if you like cheese balls then Estonia has your back with the most excellent Taffel Cheese Balls. Sadly the crab and cheese ball bags don’t have the sticky strips, but I suppose you could buy some shashlik ones, eat them and reuse the sticky strip. I have to say flipping cars is best done 1 or 2 at a time. But buying cars that require a lot doing to them is going to extend you flip time. Having many cars to flip with all needing work is where you both failed. The yard set up only lends it self to minor repairs. Private projects are fine in said location but your limited to what you can do efficiently. Basically your limited to what ever is achievable with a trolley jack and it not pissing down. If I'm honest I knew you would have to have a fire sale in the end because of the numbers you have. Shame I live so far away without transport or I might have made a bid. Rolling about on the floor fixing cars used to be my thing but arthritis put pay to that. Good luck guys with the sale

It's both of you it's not easy to buying fixing and selling cars on and having to many cars sat around just gets to much and it's aload of hassle as well dealing with people is the worse thing I used to repair and do welding for people in my spare time and got fed up as every body expects every thing for nothing so don't bother any more good luck with selling every thing but you know it needs to be done 👍

An entertaining video, the crack you lads have is so natural. Respect too that you were big enough to admit it hasn't gone as planned. I find it harder than ever now to find buyers for older cheaper cars even when they're absolutely spot on. Boatys comment at 15:20 was priceless about getting the keys to check mileage on blue 25, "that'd take effort". Intended joke or not , maybe that's the real reason the car buying/selling didn't work out 🤔

No-one failed. The main issue is going to big too quickly, when there's 2 or 3 cars needing work it's relatively easy to keep on top of but when there's 6 cars in the yard all needing work (most of it major work) it becomes a challenge to keep an eye on the end result, alot of the previously sold cars have gone to some great owners and are cherished so there's the main positive to it all ! I'd say keep up the good work but limit yourself to 3 or 4 cars and plan the work that needs doing to them so u can get them in for an mot valeted pictures then sold ! Keep up the great work tho guys there's alot of potential in the yard!

Can't b any fairer than that as am not one for buying expensive scrap but do love me Rovers! Need something too keep my merc off road during salting season! We all get it wrong selling cars as a hobby or extra pocket money. Give you example I bought MG Montego green I really liked it.. £150 Now the Metro is Simply a purchase price £450 - £750 a traders value. The retail value is just about £1295 (My Cousin) and trip to my aunts every Friday in Coventry Our family loved BL cars had my fair share.. Webuyanycar guide value.. very simple

You both didn’t "FAIL" at car selling.😊 In fact both of you bought some great cars and sold quite a few, If you look back over the year or so of selling! 🙌 The only thing that I never understood is you’d buy a car with lots of MOT just needing a valet and some light maintenance. And you’d never advertise the car for sale on social media / Which lead to some sitting around for months on end. 🙃 And then when you did advertise it. It has zero MOT or only a few weeks left. That made it unattractive to buyers. Or buy a cheap car (As it’s cheap) and don’t think why it might be cheap like the FreeLander for example. It’s abit of a dog and smokes pure blue smoke. 💨 Should have avoided that one personally. And because of this you then ended up with a yard full of cars 😅 You do have some cracking examples there still: Like Janet Jackson! 🤍 She just needs a good dam clean & the rusty seals done & painting And she will sell for a decent price. I'm sure of it. Good luck 🍀with finding new homes & selling the remaining cars tho👍🏼 But should also be proud of what you "BOTH" did achieve as you did sell quite a few. And saved a few too which went to great enthusiast owners 👌 WHICH is what your out set goal was from the very beginning! 💛

Anything that's been ready to go has gone up for sale, but often, they just don't sell. There isn't a huge market for Rover.

@@ProjectNigel There defiantly is a market for Rovers and MG 🤩It's just all about the overall condition of the vehicle and Price is whats key. A genuine enthusiast is going to look for a semi clean example thats willing enough to spend money on. Some like Dented Daisy unfortunately is too far gone to spend lots on saving. So might be the reason it didn't sell. Any way you both gave it a go an thats the main thing. 🤗 and did save a few and got them ideal homes. BUT please keep Fred the shed! 😆It's such an ideal yard car. Shame to see it go for scrap...Or go into the wrong hands.

The reason it failed was that as far as the “partnership” went Boaty was absolutely useless and had no interest or intention in doing anything useful or practical to the cars at the Yard or at his house, and quite rightly Mustard didn’t feel like doing it all or even anything himself. The yard was and is an absolute tip whereas it and the saleable cars should have been presented as clean and tidy and cared for. All reasonable service and repair jobs to refresh the cars and make them attractive and better than when they were bought should have been done with the spares facilities and manpower available. Boaty could have made his time at the Yard longer and more productive but he just wanted to make hours of throwaway videos and tit about eating takeaways. Keep Fred the Shed just to frustrate him and keep him away from the Yard so that some progress can be made without his self-serving pointless disruption….
