The knife is 1095 Steel and the Mustard was left on there for 1 hour per side. Hopefully this helps clear that up a bit.

Literally was about to be my exact 2 questions. I did a practice round for 30 minutes and it looks decent but doesn't have those really sharp dark etched lines right up against the mustard

Don't apologize. Your work speaks for its self. You are entertaining. Im 53 on disability. I had no hobby but fishing. I stumbled on your videos and it started. I just built a forge. Cut out my first knife. All i have is files and angle grinder but after the holidays ill slowly get what i need. It will always be a hobby for me. Thank you

have an old carbon steel chefs knife im redoing. hope this stops the rust as i didnt know that sanding the blade would cause rust. i enjoyed the info as i"ll cover the whole blade in mustard for a couple hours. HAPPY NEW YEAR to ya and thanks !

Building a 9mm derringer. The only gun part i have is a glock 17L barrel. It doesn't serve any purpose but just to test my skillset. Thing of mustard etching the frame.

Most store bought butcher knives are stainless steel, which are made specifically to resist patinas. If you can find a high carbon steel butcher knife, that will pick up a nice patina.

The longer you leave the mustard on the blade the darker the etch

There will always be some of it there. It etchs the blade and makes that area rougher than the higher polished sections.

I know this video is a few years old ……but how long did you leave the mustard on the knife before wiping it off the blade i just tried it and it did do much to the blade …. I’m using 1085 steel ?

I clean them and when I'm done using them I cut them up and use them in other ways.

I can dig it on the heat man. I'm in Vegas and I forge in sandals hahahahaha no lie. I'm doing a patite Santuko style Chef knife and I have the French's on there till morning. Any buffering? Or will it rub off? This will be a client's blade they told me to try something new for the and gave me $120, soooo here we are lol

Mustard etching is a forced blue patina, with proper care, it should not fade. The parts of the blade that did not react with the mustard can still rust.

Not at the moment. I just vacuum it out after it gets full. That way nothing catches on fire.

it's a forced patina so it is permanent.

alot of rambling, no real clue as to how long you left the mustard on the blade, did you only sand it to 100 grit, did you sand it further after the mustard? Details please

Had to "Defend You and Your Video" You shouldn't have to apologize about what you're wearing or what's tattooed on your body especially if it's Not offensive.
