Had an old snowblower that did exactly that. Blew the worm gear out. Actually paid to have it fixed. The shop owner was bragging up his mechanic at how good he was. Took the machine home and it would not "blow" snow. Called the shop and asked if it was possible to put augers in backwards. A long pause. Then, "Yes you can."Brought it back. They made the repair and gave me a twelve pack of beer. With Mustie's help, I have done all my own repairs on that machine. It is over thirty years old.

Also youd thing the manufacturer could have made it so the sheer pin holes were different between both sides to prevent someone from accidentally putting the augers on the wrong way. If the holes didnt align then it would have hopefully clued in the person that something clearly wasnt right.

A few years ago I bought a new snow blower from a big box store that was the same color. The first snow storm it was pushing the snow out in front. I had pull out the 20 year old blower to do the job. It was quickly put on my truck for a ride back to the store. It was hard to convince Skippy that it was assembled wrong. Returned it and got a replacement for 30% off. Still in use today.

Last winter purchased a NEW 30" Husgavana snowblower, welds on augers broke loose, new augers sent under warranty, they sent one correct width, other too narrow. Welded old augers so can use, manufacture welds just kept breaking. Backlog on replacement parts, took three months to get replacements. New replacements welds broke loose, took it apart and cleaned and welded all auger welds. Works great now, just four times apart to correct manufacturing problems. Supplier $80 to pickup and return snowblower, so I had to take the machine apart to avoid all the delivery charges. And I have a five year warranty on this lovely machine ( MOTOR ONLY under warranty for five years, fine print)

She will out blow any of the neighborhood machines even though she is an old timer. It even has a locking differential. I have to replace the center bearing behind the flywheel in the spring, that should be a time! I’ve heard horror stories when it comes to getting that to come apart, good thing I’ll have all summer, lol! Thanks for the video, hopefully mine slides apart like buttah also!!

Mustie, you were incredibly lucky that the pulley hub came off the impellor shaft and that the impellor was not seized on. I us d to buy shear pins by the dozen because frozen newspapers only go halfway through the impellor. Driving the impellor backwards with a 2 by 4 and a sledge is the quickest way to clear a jam. Never Seize is the snowblower mechanics best friend.

Hi Mustie. I came across a shiny new-looking Troy-Bilt snowblower some years back during a weekend city-wide yard sale. I paid around $100 for it. It looked hardly used even though it was about 10 years old. Shiny paint, no rust, unworn skid plates. It looked like it just came off the dealer's showroom floor. When I used it some months later I was able to see why it was in such good shape. It was not clearing the snow very well. After a few moderate snowfalls, I actually studied the auger action and discovered the augers were installed left-on-the right, and right-on-the-left. I had to split the blower housing completely off the unit to affect the repairs. I now understood why that factory-fresh-looking blower was in such good shape. Someone at the factory was not paying attention to their job and assembled the auger unit this way at the factory. The original owner just put it into storage instead of trying to get it fixed and finally cleaned out their garage to get rid of the poor running blower. Their loss, it runs awesome for me now! Love the channel!

Excellent time to grease wheels/axles and check Friction wheel. Fantastic Lift for this and many other jobs. I have an Ariens 2055 model, 20 inch cut, 5.5 hp, it plugged a lot, except in powder, I watched a video on adding rubber to the 4 blades on the second stage that throws it out of the shoot. Because the factory leaves a 1/4 inch gap at least of clearance so the blades would never touch the outer housing. So I took his advice, we have some 1/4 rubber at work, I removed my shoot, took out the spark plug and turned the blade until it was at the top of the shoot, and sure enough I had the 1/4 inch gap at least, I made a cardboard template to fit over the whole blade and fill that gap to an 1/8 inch on the edge and one side, I cut the four pieces out of the rubber, drilled 2 holes in them and through the steel blades. I bolted those rubber pieces to the blades, with short 1/4 inch bolts and lock nuts, and turned them to make sure my clearance was good, it was fine, fired it up, and that thing throws snow like a beast, I thanked him online, it only took a couple hours, I would recomend it to anybody with a 2 stage, it throws powder 25 feet, all the best to ya.

Been through this a few times. Most of those differential front pieces blow before the sheer pins. We loosen the blade from the barrel side then pull the bearings. Most units you can twist the front axle and shaft, pull the blades, then seperate the front diff with the front axle in. . Very quick job that way!! Enjoy the channel

At least it was well greased! I'm not looking forward to when my 8 year old HUSKEE (by MTD) will need a major overhaul. My shear pins are plain (no threads) with a hole at the end to put a locking clip thru. I ran into the big end of a broken pine limb the town so graciously plowed and covered at the end of my driveway. Ran to my local hardware store but they only had shear Bolts, I bought two of the right diameter (and hoped they were weak enough). I then ordered 10 of the correct pins and clips online with free shipping for what I paid for the two temporary bolts. I drilled holes into the metal control panel to keep a couple of extra pins and clips on the machine and put the rest in the tool box.

Great Video. I've seen videos where snow blowers came from the factory with the agers in the wrong direction. Sense this is an Ariens snow blower, and if it has the auto steer differential that opens up a whole other can of worms. The left axle is prone to rusting if not taken apart and cleaned and reassembled with grease or anti cease. The differential is also known for moisture contamination as well as the spring inside becoming weak and allowing the gears to not engage properly and thus wearing them out. If you have a machine with this type of steering, replacing the differential periodically is a given.
