I've always loved this set and have used it for decades. It's terrific. I prefer it to the passive Duncan set Gilmour has been using in recent years on his black signature strats. This set can do anything. You can play metal one minute then turn on a dime and play clean, floating jazz. It's wonderful and very versatile.

The Pulse part was really good. Shows that if you want David's 80s tone this is the ticket. You mileage may vary on everything else. I put an S in the neck position of mine because it's got more treble bite and is a lot more stratty sounding, especially with gain. The SA in the bridge is nice and fat with the SPC up. These really are great pickups but they do have a unique vibe for sure.

You have been a great inspiration to me! 100% Credit to your videos, I have sold my Line 6 HD POD 500x digital guitar modeler and purchased many of your recommended analog pedals and my tone is now better than ever! Thank you so much for your videos! I will be retiring soon and will soon need to sell about 5 of my guitars and downgrade in size from my Marshall 1960 lead 1/2 stack and DSL 100h tube head as my wife & I will be moving from very large house into a very small 40ft 5th wheel toy hauler and hitting the road full time. I would love to see your review of the new "Fender Tone Master Pro" guitar modeler and see what kind of Gilmour tones can you get out of her? please please! I cant think of anyone else better on the planet other than David Gilmour himself to review this new product!

Awesome pickups! I had to choose between those and the SLL-5 Staggered and eventually, I went with the Seymour Duncans. Could you tell me a budget way to cancel the excess noise on those Seymour Duncan SLL-5 passive pickups. (P.S. I have the full stack in the neck middle and neck positions). Thanks a lot. It really started to annoy me lately.

It would be infinitely more valuable if you could share the entirety of your relative settings when demoing the tonal qualities of an instrument/gear. Sharing the entire panel of your amp in a sub window, including the brand/model/year & wattage is great since the amp or sim is a huge factor in what we're hearing. Let us know what kind of mic you're using & how you have the amp mic'd, or whether you're going direct from the amp itself, or direct to the box from the guitar. When you throw the OD on, what kind of overdrive is it, & what are the settings? Even what DAW you've produced the segment on, & any relative data can be helpful. Those are all major factors in what the listener actually hears on this end, & without any reference points whatsoever, it makes all this data you've worked so hard to gather & share, a bit aimless. It's like having a map, but without any way of ever knowing where you are on that map. It sounds like a lot to cover, but I've seen it effectively conveyed via screen prompts or even a quick verbal disclaimer explaining what isn't, instead of what is in terms of settings. Regardless, this is a great & generous video, thank you!

Hello brother, I have a question that always worried me about the emg, I have thought about acquiring them many times, and I never decided thinking that there would not be much difference in tone with respect to normal passive pickups, what would you say to me in your opinion? are emgs really worth it? radically changes the tone with respect to a passive pickup? Or is it just more for the fact of canceling noises? big hug

Hey Smitt, I can say that with the mid boost off, it's not that different, it's different, but not that much. It takes a little while to get used to it. Once you do, it's really great to have boosts at the tip of your fingers. I'm not saying you can't get vintage tones, you see this channel is built around EMG's I brought my vintage strat from my studio and I'll make a detailed comparison between texas specials (much more versatile than ssl5 for me) vs. emg's. but if I were to take one today, I'd pick EMG because you can get vintage tones with emg but it's really hard to get pulse tones with vintage single coil.

@@mustyguitar thanks brother for the info, I always loved the tone of david de pulse and I always believed that the tone was given mainly by the EMG beyond the pedals, I am not saying that with a traditional sigle coil pickup you cannot play what was from that time, but I also think that without the emg it is rare to get close enough, one more question, on pulse, how do you think I used the SPC and EXG pots David? I heard that the EXG was always turned off and that on some occasions the SPC turned on between 3 and 4 approximately, what do you think? I send you a big hug
@mustyguitar
@mustyguitar Жыл бұрын
@@maycosmitt2123 first of all, don't base your settings on anyone. I made the same mistake and maybe I still do, every setting depend on your situation, amp, playing, pedal settings, your room, volume, signal chain.... For clean tones I think gilmour didn't use any spc or exg. for overdrive tones on songs like coming back to life, it's around 4-5 for solos for big muffs, for songs like sorrow it's 10 but for comfortably numb, it starts with 6-7 and for waving part it goes to 10. logically thinking, you need to boost where you lack the most, clean amp is already pretty good, hiwatt amps are mid rangy, big muffs lack mid range so he boosts when he needs the most.

@@mustyguitar Thanks brother for taking the time to answer these questions that have been on my mind for a long time and about which I was always very curious about the usefulness that David Gilmour gave to potentiometers, mainly to SPC, in the live video of Sorrow. (pulse) can be seen in the intro of the song gilmour plays constantly with the spc control (mid frequencies) especially you can see how he opens the spc knob adding mid frequencies right at the part where the guitar gives feedback, (it is known that the mid frequencies are used for feedback), I don't know if Dave actually does it for that purpose or not, but it's clear. and that's why now I think about when you tell me that he actually uses it in parts where he needs it, and regarding the big muff of the big ones where you say they lack medium frequencies, I have both the big big muff, as well as the russo, the latter it's known for having the most boosted EQ in the mids compared to other big sleeves, which leads me to think that perhaps the use of spc is a little less necessary, correct me if I'm wrong, cheers
@mustyguitar

@@maycosmitt2123 like I said, it depends on your signal chain, some muffs are mid boosted but spc can still be of use. I use spc a lot with green russian too.
