Great demo! I‘ve also been exploring the drum voices of Plaits for some days using the Traffic module from Jasmine & Olive Tree to modulate model selection on Plaits and CV ins. Fun stuff with many happy accidents. Thanks for hinting to try out the second output of Plaits. Didn‘t try the obvious.

I just wanted to leave a comment about Traffic. That is a really great companion to Plaits, Plonk or BIA. Don’t have one, but would like to get one in the future.

I have a Traffic paired to Plaits. Also use it in the same manner with a Michigan Synths SY 0.5. Works very nicely in both cases :)@@TheUnperson

2:50 WHAAAAAAAA!?😱🤯 That sounded amazing when you switched that in! I love using the beatstep pro velocity to choose models on plaits. It helps to plug into an attenuator first. You can end up throwing tones, chords and some dx7 bells in accidentally😋

was going to suggest using one of the "melody" sequencers into the model select

@@rolandhanchard2072 damn, that's a really good idea! You can have finer control over the selections other that spinning that knob and hoping lol. Thanks for that!🙌👏 I'm going to try rn 🙃

Sterling work man, always so damned musical. Yeah I employed a Minibrute 2S in much the same way. Had the main CV and gate outs to constrain the 2S's noise (metalised) into a closed/open hat pattern, then had the extra 2 CV outs on kick/snare duty. 1 out as trigger for both and the other as switch between kick and snare. Worked pretty well. Many thanks for another inspirational offering.

Jasmin & Olive Trees' recently released "TRAFFIC"-module makes Plaits (and similarly versatile modules like BIA) an easier-to-use 3-voice drum machine. The first and second batch of traffic modules was sold out in minutes.

You can sequence the model to create monophonic linear drumming type patterns. Not ideal for live performance, but it’s doable. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos! Super informative and inspiring

I've done some cool drum stuff with Plaits by using MI Frames to set up different modulation positions for each step, and then sequence those positions via another SEQ. Also great with Pressure Points. That let's me get a wider range of tones on each step. But it's still pretty much Kick-hat-snare-hat-kick-hat-snare-hat. Do the same trick with Rings for some extra percussion and it's a pretty full and cool kit, but then you've taken up like three sequencers. lol
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
That’s a neat idea! It’s worth using the 3 sequencers if it inspires some music! ☺️
@XiXora Жыл бұрын
You really want some preset modules or sequenced CV to use more than one drum model here to help mould each sound with each trigger imo. I have done this with a set of attenuverters though which did the trick but I do like to tweak between sounds like high-hats so they aren't as robotic.
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
Sequenced cv would be perfect.. especially if it could modulate the parameters per hit!

I'm getting some interesting kick/snare results with that last technique. It works surprisingly well.

Some cracking sounds, great stuff. The answer of course is to get a Disting EX as well, then you instantly have access to four more instances of Plaits! Or is that cheating?

@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
I do have a Disting Ex but haven’t yet explored the plaits mode ~ I get easily confused with too many menus lol

There’s a 4x Plaits algorithm in the Disting, and a 4x Braids one too!
@VirtualModular Жыл бұрын
OK, I know this is a modular hardware channel but I'm obliged to point out that you can run as many Plaits as you want in VCV/Cardinal 😅 It's a digital module, so the code is exactly the same. There's even a polyphonic clone called Palette, which is amazing. If you wanted all the sounds at once, you could make some beats with the virtual version and sample a few bars into the OP-1 I guess.
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
Haha you’re absolutely right ~ could patch such a great drum machine in VCV rack (I’ve just started exploring it recently!).

@@TheUnperson great, I would love to see some videos on that. I'm not sure if a hybrid setup with your other kit would be amazing, or a complete pain on the arse. Would be interesting though!

Agreed. Sonically, very capable but not being able to have more than one sound hitting at a time is another potential issue. That said, it's workable for sure. Wonder if the code can be hacked to make it more useable?
