Difference is fine but occasionally. But if difference is for difference sake it would end up ludicrous at one point of time. People who appreciate his different style would invariably tend to develope this kind of sense. That is why, parthiban remains /stagnates as parthiban without becoming an outstanding artist because of this trait. Focus on "substance" is vital but it would be missing if it were concurrently on "difference". Difference is superficial.Substance is deeper. Parthiban is intelligent but did not focus on his career as much as he could have because of his "obsession" with being "different" all the time. Further, he had been & has been prompted by the ordinary applause he has been getting from everybody for being different. This has also I suppose mislead him towards the not so a better path.

Parthiban is obviously intelligent but with a complex personality. What could be conveyed with a simple/ bland yes or no, he uses to talk in a round about way so as to be very accurate that is rarely understood by others. His films are also like his talks. He uses to talk about a matter or person with many "ifs & buts". Naturally average (intelligent ) people ignore the " ifs & buts" & (mid) understand the remaining portion. So, the average audience never likes or understands the theme of his pictures. They shun his films. So his pictures rarely has had any mass appeal & consequently bombed at box office. The sole exception was his Puthia Pathai. The film deals with a complex theme but clearly written, with a fine screen play. The important point is that it conveyed the message in a direct manner. It was understood easily, received well & was appreciated by the mass. The intellectuals in film world are rare & far between. There is some problem with them. They have much bigger complex personality. They do appreciate many aspects of his films but pick up holes here & there to show/him that they are very much superior to him intelligent wise. This is okay but that is very ordinary . This is fine but it could have been made still better. Such people rarely see any films more than once. They don't matter at all in deciding his film as a hit or flop.
