Writer of the W&W Fallout video scripts here: for this script, since it covers the events surrounding the first Fallout game, I tried to write out this video's story as canonically as possible, using the Vault Dweller's Memoirs as my main reference. Obviously, as Fallout is a role-playing game series, certain information and story elements mentioned in this video can be done in a different order, have a different outcome, be avoided entirely, or in the case of the Vault Dweller's battle with the Master I combined the final "boss" fight with elements of the alternative Speech check outcome. Also, there is definitely more to the Fallout 1 story and questlines that I had to omit from the script for video length purposes that I encourage you guys to read about or play in the game! A pleasure as always to write the Fallout lore videos!

Tim Cain originally wanted to make siding with Killian to be the 'bad' outcome, as Gizmo's leadership helped Junktown prosper through his ruthlessness. Killian apparently was seen as the trick 'good' option, but would later lead junktown into ruin through naivety. They scrapped this because they thought it too unfair to the player to subvert such a quest with counter-intuitive results.

Gizmo wasn't really ruthless he just didn't want the near Puritan society Killian wanted.

Sounds like what ended up happening in Dragon Age Origins. You had to choose between the kindly Harromont and the ruthless Bhelen to be the next high king of Orzemar. It turns out that Bhelen ends up implementing a lot of progressive ideas, such as establishing greater ties with the outside races and granting greater rights to the castless dwarves. He even had greater restraint in using the Anvil of the Void compared to Harrowmont, who had allowed the dwarves to raid outside settlements to create more golems.

I do find that the map when showing the progress of the vault dweller is WAY too zoomed out. Initially showing the entirety of the US map makes sense to show which part of the US Fallout 1 is set, But having the map so zoomed out for the rest of the video makes for a not so great experience. It's like covering the Battle of Stalingrad, but the map of the entirety of Europe is used to demonstrate troop movements in such a small spot.

One of the very few things that the Brotherhood can claim to have actually accomplished was driving the remnants of the Master's armies east. Although such fits their nature as cravenous scavengers, taking and doing whats left after someone else already did all the work.
@jonathanwoody29368 ай бұрын
You know I never really thought about it that way but you do have a point that the Brotherhood of Steel *tends* to be opportunistic and let others do the hard work for them, before then taking direct action themselves once everything's been resolved for the most part: defeating the remnants of the Master's Army in the years after Fallout 1, warring with the Enclave in the months and years after Fallout 2, helping the Lone Wanderer take Project Purity at the very end of Fallout 3's main quest, when at this point their backs were to the wall and the Enclave basically forced their hand (although the F3 BoS is honestly the "nicest" we've seen the Brotherhood in the series, due to Owen Lyons' altruistic leadership style.) Even in Fallout New Vegas, there is an outcome with the BoS where they take back HELIOS One while the NCR is busy fighting the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.
@alexanderrahl70348 ай бұрын
The Brotherhood chapters are usually in a unique position in most of the games, excluding tactics and 3. They are an elite, well armed and equipped, technologically advanced force. But they dont have the numbers, and are bound by a set of rules and laws that keeps them from rectifying that weakness.. The brotherhood can _dominate_ a battle, with their power armor and energy weapons. But they dont have the manpower to occupy a territory effectively. Being disallowed by leadership from recruiting new people and expanding, while also being either neutral or belligerent to outsiders due to their stance on tech, means their only real option is isolation and opportunism. Which itself is a bad position to be in

@jonathanwoody29368 ай бұрын
That's "semi" true. In the Fallout Bible it's stated that the Vault Dweller was aged 20 at the time of his adventure in 2161 - 2162. The pre-made "default" character build for Albert Cole states he's 27. So, I guess it's one of the many plot points of Fallout that's up for interpretation by the player. However, when I play Fallout 1, I personally always pick the Albert Cole character and just modify his stats :)
