Legion, Legion needs the overhaul the most. In my last playthrough, Vulpes tripped on a static object and exploded into pieces, welp, there goes a third of the legion quests, of what little they have.

The Followers. In Fallout 1 they were so badass, helping the Vault Dweller infiltrate the Cathedral thanks to an undercover Followers agent and otherwise gaining control of the L.A. Boneyards by the end of the game. A major faction like that that's been around longer than the NCR has existed is definitely overdue for an overhaul, especially since most faction overhaul mods tend to focus on most factions that AREN'T the Followers.

I am incessantly let down by the NV Followers. I've never played the classic games, but even still, I feel like the game is very inconsistent with them. On the one hand, the followers are successful enough to have this big base of operations and an outpost, sprinkle missionaries throughout the wastes, they make an attempt on House's network (an entirely futile attempt, but still), and they lead Veronica to question her own faction. Yet, even with all the support of the courier available, the independent ending always ends with Vegas in chaos and the followers overwhelmed. And, idk, I guess that's something to be said of the nature of their philosophies, and anarchy at large in a way. It just feels incomplete tho. You can have so much variation in an NCR or House victory, and even to a lesser extent with the Legion. But independent playthroughs always feel the same at the end cards, whether you were a saint or a butcher. Maybe I just have too much faith in them, idk 🤷‍♀️

Personally I kinda like that aspect of west coast fallout. It isn’t static, but rather ever changing. The followers and brotherhood were a big deal in Fallout 1, but it’s been well over a hundred years since then and we can’t expect that would necessarily stay the same. For the brotherhood they fell because of their isolationism and xenophobia, whereas I think the followers started stumbling because of their devotion to their ideas spreading them too far, making them ill equipped to push back against the NCR. Just my feelings though.

Yeah. The Legion are irredeemably evil (slavery and crucifixion,) but I’d like there to be more to them so they’re at least interesting bad guys. One mod I like (although I’d imagine it would be more annoying if officially in the game) is one that limits NCR merchants and Legion merchants to accepting only their factions currencies. And there’s some slaver Legion quest mod out there, too. Time and budget cuts be a bitch.

The most compelling argument I've heard about gouls is that it's both, searchlight for example has gouls made entirely due to radiation, unless FEV is in every human somewhat and radiation just completes which doesn't appear anywhere that I know of. While Harold is made from FEV.

IIRC part of the reason the Enclave wanted to wipe out everyone at the end of Fallout 2 was because everything living on the surface (IE: anyone who wasn't an Enclave citizen or a Vault Dweller still in a Vault) was, by that point, infected with FEV to some extent - which is also why they kidnapped everyone still in Vault 13 at the beginning of the game, to use them as "control" samples. That being said though, I believe ghoulification IS completely tied to radiation exposure, with FEV not really being a factor. You could argue that FEV exposure gives someone a higher _chance_ to become a ghoul, but I don't think it _causes_ it.

I hate to bust your balls about the feral ghoul re-texture, but everything about them exists for a reason. Starting with the fact that most of them are 200+ years old, stemming from the great war. Ergo, effects of said war would probably be permanently affixed to their bodies. Such as their blank white soulless eyes. They were likely blinded by the flash of the nuclear hellfire, or their eyes melted in the aftermath along with the rest of their physical being. Following with their lack of garments. You don't see a lot of pre-war store mannequins still wearing clothing after 200+ years do you? No, cause clothing just straight up doesn't last that long against the elements. Not to mention they could have easily just been burned up in the nuclear hellfire 200+ years ago. Feral ghouls wandering around the wastes after 200+ years in the same outfit aren't going to be much different. Everything about them is meant to be there. You just have to pause and think about it.

my biggest gripe with a lot of these mods is the lack of animations, especially on the centaurs. I understand how difficult animating all of those parts would be, but it would really make them look actually scary. I can imagine the two-headed centaur having the human head breathing slow and heavy while the dog head pants and groans.

It would make sense for ghouls to have different attributes, since they differ so much from each other already. Some may need more food than others, or Glowing Ones for example; Jason Bright, who is an almost mythical figure in the wasteland, seemingly needing no sustenance whatsoever.

Now I'm thinking of a mod so that YOU can become Caesar/Legate. During Cesar's tumor mission, a new option opens up. "Cesar, You know you are not immortal, your time will come sooner or later." Caesar will try to convince you that Lanius will lead the legion but with a speech or intelligence test you give him to understand that Lanius is not the best choice. This will make Caesar want to start a Council among its senior members: Lucius, Vulpes, Lanius and you (probably add also other named members like Aurelius, Silus, Gaius Magnus, Gabban, Alerio and Dead Sea?). You will have to fulfill extra objectives for them or convince them and at the end Lanius would have to pass a test of 100 or challenge him to a Combat. If you lose, you will not die, you will wake up a few days later and everything will return to the original route (heal Cesar or let him die and follow Lanius' orders). If you win the fight, during the final council you have the option to choose one of the Emperor to lead when cesar passes away or to propose yourself. As Caesar's new Legate you will be sent to the Legate Camp (the one used in the final fight in all routes) here you can talk to Caesar and propose him to change different things such as alliances with different Factions like Jacobstown, The powder Bandits and the followers of the apocalypse. We will be able to explore the pantheon of the legion and try to expand the influence of the other deities. Example: You will meet an old "blacksmith" who will tell you that he was part of the Texas BoS and now still a follower of the god of the forges Vulcan, he will give you a new mission to track down the remaining members of the Mojave brotherhood and join the legion several will be nameless and will attack on sight others we can convince them and there will be special interactions with Veronica and Paladin Seto, with the few members convince them to join the old blacksmith and Vulcan or change the ways of the old one by starting a new Brotherhood with a name like Brotherhood Of Vulcan. Veronica will still hate you unless you convinced her to leave the sisterhood before destroying it, she will still resent you but she will become a follower again. As with Veronica you will have to convince the rest of the Companions to join you in the legion by promising things like freedom for the Women (Lily, Cass, Veronica) Shelter for the followers (Arcade who will give you the mission of the Remnants of the enclave) Reversing slavery (Boone and Arcade) Raul... It's Raul, maybe a plot to find out what happens with the Supermutants and Ghoul of the legion. Now several of these things Caesar will reject at the beginning but you will give him the idea of allowing it only in one City/Region and gradually pass it to the rest of the legion. When the Time comes for the second battle of the dam and you Kill or let Oliver flee it will show a scene where on the way back to the camp Lanius explodes the house that separates the dam in 2 giving you a speech about his victories in Denver and how "A Simple Courier will not take away his glory" starting the final fight against Lanius, after defeating him you have 3 options, Prove that you are a better person by forgiving Lanius who goes to the East where the last you know he went alone to fight a force that outnumbered him 100 to one, be merciful but still cruel by executing him at the dam, or prove that you are a monster like Caesar by giving him the same fate Caesar gave to Malpais by burning Lanius and throwing him from the dam... I don't know how long I've been writing this... And I haven't said all my ideas like changing the pantheon from Roman to Greek if you have the Wild Wasteland perk or interactuarew with Joshua, Ulysses, Christine, Elijah or even the Think Tank if you become The Legate.

Am agreeing with a lot of the other comments on here, next should absolutely be a video all about overhauling the legion, and to some extent, the NCR to pair. The legion really needs work to genuinely feel like the menace they are meant to be.

Great video, especialy liked the muties n' ghouls section, and the creature variety mods. But for nighstalkers and some other animals I always picked GUN stuff, and Dragbody's Nexus releases too, they just keep the vanila vibe but hd, but they kinda make them stick a bit out of the style.

My only complaint with "horrors of the new West" was when they changed the eyes. Keeping the look of the OG clay model is why I liked it and the eyes were the main reason I liked the clay model. Gave it a creepy vibe, alongside the rest of its monstrous shape. 10:26 And now I'm thinking about reading Jojolion. The textures make their skin look a bit too rough, but the horns are a nice touch.

It is impossible to claim with a straight face that Ghouls would not need food and water. As it does go against basic biology - but it also contracts one of the major consequences of finding a Water Chip in Fallout 1. The Ghouls there needed water to live.
