I think as this theme plays over the end credits, it truly compounds the feeling of being moved by the final scene with Hazel and the Black Rabbit. Most people are astounded by how beautiful, joyous and moving that scene is, and then this beautiful theme starts as the end credits roll. This movie was just incredible!

I love that scene - the way he looks back at his family hesitating to leave to go with his destiny but then he is reassured “they will be fine - and thousands like them” 😭 always a lump in my throat when I watch this ending - the music lifts you up and then down and then up to the glorious ending - we all have a destiny to follow

At the end it's not the Black Rabbit. At first it is, but then he changes into El-ahrarirah. You can tell it's El-ahrairah because his ears are shining and are described as such in the novel. In the novel it also states that some rabbits who have lived a remarkable life are greeted in death not by Inle-rah but by El-ahrairah to join him in his Owsla. El-ahrairah came to Hazel in the place of Inle-rah because of the feats Hazel had achieved.

This stole my heart a very long time ago.I had it when I was child, a gypsy living in kent, it made me thirst for beauty, for greater freedoms. I turned 12 and we moved to london and it slowly left me (the magic) work and the rest of it, house, relationships etc Than one day I just picked up my pen and started to write about it all. that was 5 years and many books ago and still have not yet describe how wonderful and free beauty is. This song is theme of my life, my foundation.

@@MrShireknight I think you may be confusing the 1978 film with the later BBC/Netflix adaptation. Even if not, there's never been a 143-minute version of the 1978 film, at least not unless you're including the extras that come with some versions of the DVD.

Interesting take, but the Black Rabbit merely appears in 'familiar form' so as to gently greet Hazel and introduce him to his end. When Hazel is asked the question 'do you know who I am', the Black Rabbit then reveals himself as so. It's just a kindness.
