Agreed! Social platforms are fleeting where emails are immediately directed to the exact people who have agreed that you are worthy of paying attention to. Glad to find your channel!

Hey Kevin! very good information about the music business. can you make a review about your experience with tunepipe? thanks
@KevinGoetz2 жыл бұрын
I actually have a video coming up all about Tunepipe, so make sure you're subscribed to keep an eye out for that. But in short, I was one of the earliest users, and I have quite a few positive things to say about it :)

I'm really glad to see you uploading more content. I've been a subscriber since you had short hair and were explaining syncopation in guitar lesson videos (thank you for that btw). For the last couple years this is the video I've been waiting for. Im presently using a lot of your approaches to direct my own band. I hope one day to squeeze your email haha.

Hey Kevin thanks for another great video! Not many people in the metal world giving tips on music marketing and you explain it very well so glad I came across your channel. My question is do you have any recommendations on a easy to use website builder to use for collecting emails(squeeze page) and having the blog posts like you mentioned?
@KevinGoetz5 жыл бұрын
That's why I recommend Music Marketing Manifesto. It walks you through designing a Wordpress site that is very well-optimized for all of these purposes, as well as how to write a good blog post for this, how to host and sell your music, how to write emails that people will actually open, and of course how to get in front of your would-be audience using Facebook ads. If you'd like to look into it, I do have a review on this channel, or you can check out the link here: bit.ly/2MyCRRT

@@KevinGoetz Lol well there's enough of em to go around I suppose! What I've seen a lot of lately is all this feel-good "inspirational" content (disguised as business advice). High production value, editing, graphics, clickbait title, and... no actual information!

This is very similar to Indepreneur's marketing "Buddy System". Check it out if you are interested in seeing someone elese's take on this.

I'm actually very familiar with them. I like them, but the results never worked for me the way MMM does. I broke down the numbers here in another comment, but short answer is that the cost per subscriber is too high using the video retargeting method they recommend, rather than simply sending cold traffic to my squeeze page. It's the difference for me between simply breaking even on my ad spend or actually making a substantial profit.

I'm 100% with you on not depending on third party to communicate (I'm subscribed to my YT channels through RSS ^^) But your "squeeze page" (did I get it right ?) don't have any sample music ? I'm surprised it works... I hate having to give my email if I'm not sure of the value... And if I don't know your music, it's unlikely that you can interest me with words enough to do that. But hey... if it works for you :)
@KevinGoetz5 жыл бұрын
Fair point! That's what the social proof from the magazine and radio quotes are for. I've done some testing with sample music on the page, it's counter-intuitive but the signup rate actually goes down. I suspect it's because the images, words and especially the promise of what my music offers means enough to my target audience that they can't resist the curiosity. But with sample music, they can listen a bit and go, "Okay I think I get what this band's about, maybe I'll come back later and get the free songs." The point of the squeeze page is to leave no option other than to make a decision in that moment.

You make money marketing your music online? or is it really that you make money being an affiliate for Music Marketing Manifesto? 🤔 Seems kinda fishy.
@KevinGoetz5 жыл бұрын
Actually yes, I do make money from marketing my music online, and I'll forgive the accusation that I'm being dishonest and break the entire process down for you: Anyone who utilizes this approach can realistically make between $100 and $300 per day in profit from the initial advertising funnel. This is based on some fairly simple math - best results, it costs about $0.50 to acquire an email subscriber. This is a combination of a 35% conversion rate on the squeeze page and a cost per click that averages between $0.10 and $0.20. You can also only realistically spend about $100 per day on ads without burning out your target audience - this comes from a best practice of capping your spending at about $1 per 10,000 people in your target audience. Now, another best result is that between 10 and 20 percent of the people who sign up to your email sequence will likely buy the music you offer at the end of said sequence. So, if you're spending $100/day, and these numbers are fairly consistent (which they are, that's how funnels work, the results are repeatable averages), you can expect to make between $200 and $400 in return. Now, later down the line, what about shirts? Patreon? Touring? What we're doing with this strategy is building a real, sustainable audience that will happily support us for years to come, just like a major label band is able to do. But by all means, I'm sure this must all be bullshit because I make a few hundred a month from affiliate sales here on my KZbin channel.

@@KevinGoetz What do you mean with that: "But by all means, I'm sure this must all be bullshit because I make a few hundred a month from affiliate sales here on my KZbin channel." Was it sarcasm?

You give a lot of helpful information in your videos, so thank you for that. Just being honest, though. You sound condescending, like you’re talking down to anyone who doesn’t know what you know.

Damn, this is only the second video of yours that I've watched and they are incredibly helpful. Probably gonna gear heavily towards the email approach like you were saying instead of just Instagram which is pretty much 100% what I was going to focus on. Thinking about that course too and will definitely use your link if I take it 👌. Thanks again man.
