This was my "you learn something new everyday" for today. I used to play the trumpet back in grade school and in college, but never did play with a mute. I love the old music that has muted trumpets in it and really enjoyed learning how the different styles affect the tone. Great video! 👍

Thank you for this video! It helps a lot as I am looking to start 20-30s music 🎺 Lots of inspiration from a local radio broadcast by me... “big broadcast by rich conaty” lots of great trumpet pieces

Great informative video T.J. You’ve inspired me to get back into learning to play after a number of years. Ive always had a love for the early jazz/swing eras. Can you recommend any particular trumpet more suited to this style of music? What is your instrument of choice? All the best.

That's great! You know, whatever trumpet/ cornet you currently have will probably be just fine to get you going. I do love my 1920's Conn Victor Cornet though, I also have a couple of 1920's Harry B. Jay Cornets which I find very characterful. Good Luck!!

@ That’s great thanks, it was actually trombone that I played previously so I don’t currently own a trumpet.

Great video! Do you know what made the old kazoo mute pictured at the end?
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm not sure who manufactured the Kazoo mute, the image is from Louis Panico's book 'The Novelty Cornetist'.

I have an olds TIS trombone like yours, may I ask what the bell diameter if yours is?

Hmm, not sure. I'll try and remember to measure and get back to you. I love playing it though, it's a good horn.
