Exactly. When you know the dew is going to come in way ahead of time as the whole Indian team practiced at the same ground the previous night, why wouldn’t you play aggressively in the first innings?. No risk, no reward! I would rather have them play aggressive and loose than play defensive and expect Australia to choke under a batting friendly wicket with full of dew. Even if they want to choke you have only 240 runs on the board. You got to be an A level choker for that to happen and Australia is way wiser than that. One should always play to their strengths than expect others to choke on their weaknesses. We lost the game mid innings in our batting - way too many dot balls - there is no way you can expect to win a World Cup final with such a defensive mindset. Well played Australia. A good reality check for India / when plan A fails, one would need a plan B to deliver under pressure!

I think we (public and media) declare india to be winners without giving much credit to opposition. Look at Australia-they too won 9 consecutive matches in row including finals and semi. And an impossible game against Afghanistan against all odds. So its not they won just 5 or 6 games. Even if they would have 5 games but wc, then more credit to them. Aus in 99 wc, pak in 92 wc also lost few matches but came back stronger. Toss was not important. Rohit wanted to bat. And everyone was shocked when aus choose to bowl considering it was slow pitch. Main thing is India's manupulatiion in controlling world event even when they had the best team. People are not questioning semi final but that too india tried hard manipulating by using a used pitch, so that there is no threat of boult or southee. The pitch still played well. And india won, so no questions raised. Final same thing they tried but lost. And rohit although selfless throughout, needed to play longer in final when he was in control.

If lndia was such a massively dominant team they would have won in any conditions. They weren't. They didn't bat deeper than 6, and Australia fielded better. The reason lndia's run rate was so low for 30 overs is because they knew they had no batting depth and had to play safe, and Australia's fielding kept the runs down.

This world cup was completely dependent on Virat,Rohit similar to 2019 honestly only Iyer impressed but had he played good innings in finals he could have fixed his position in Indian team permanently. Pandya's injury and Shardul been replaced with shami was game changing movement for Indian cricket. Shami,bhumrah except 10 overs could not provide any breakthroughs once travis head started firing they were clueless. There was no significant dew in the 2nd innings. Indian bowlers just bowled badly. Rohit was too defensive and no slip was the biggest mistake rohit made. Marnus played a test innings which was not expected as well

@ind180 bruhh, think about this. Lemme tell you, due to the inexperienced we have, Rohit didn't play the approach he had in the 2019 WC. He changed his intent by attacking so others can take time to play so they gain experience. Of course they gained a lot in those 9 matches but unfortunately their confidence level is not too high, maybe the coach revealed that they are playing in the slow pitch or the pitch was changed. But maybe if Rohit changed his intent in the final, I'm sure he would've scored a ton due to his batting. But we cannot blame him for anything, Siraj didn't bowl with the new ball because he is under confident that the reason why he didn't give him. So he risked Bumrah and Shami with the new ball. Still a catch was dropped at the slip. And also people started blaming Rohit for suddenly not keeping any slips, but he was right bcoz the ball came nicely to the bat every time so AUS just played well. But arguably they played better in the first innings, their field setup and aggression in the field is too good. BCCI : Believes in Player form ACB : Believe in their squad and morale

Due regards to legend Murali. Aging Rohit was 100% responsible for loosing 1st test in SA. Rohit has 15 average in last 6-8 tests, staying in crease for few mins and more time in pavilion. Name, game, record etc have ZERO value for displaying hollow skills. Rohit is no Viv Richards and after 15+ yrs, he is unable to put price on his wicket and throwing wicket repeatedly. Reasons I believe for the loss of the final : 1.Rohit wanted to be aggressive is fine but when it is final and when you are playing initial overs of the innings , the aggression is expected to be a controlled one , not a loose one as he kept on hitting every other ball. 2.On the other side , Kohli and KL played way too defensive , credits to the Australian bowling efforts but both Kohli and KL must aim boundaries while building the partnership , they lack the aggressive intent which is needed to pace up the scoreboard in maintaining the run rate. 3.And through out the Indian innings one should admit that Australian bowlers bowled with discipline - Keeper catches of 3 batsmen Shreyas, KL and Jadeja shows it all , without any slip in place, the accuracy they have shown is laudable. And I want to mention about SK Yadav who has failed to play slow/short deliveries and rotate strike with our tail enders. 4.While bowling to the Aussies , I feel India didn't want to play attacking field set with slips or different placements or didn't really try to do something different with the bowlers asking them to disturb their momentum , there was no effort in that direction. (We had seen Dhoni doing this when the runs on the scoreboard suggesting that the opposition is most likely to win). Rohit would have given it a try. In summary I feel Aussies know how to deliver under pressure and did it again. And one should accept that restricting India to 240 itself would suggest a win probability of 80%(Aussies) -20%(India) under Indian pitch/weather conditions.

I agree with everything you have said. But there was another reason the Aussies won, their fielding. I think that saved between 30 to 40 runs but stopping boundaries and stopping the ball inside the ring putting more pressure on Kohli and KL. Aust did the same to Sth Africa in the semi, saved a lot of runs with their fielding.

India , Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh etc are zero in the games which requires speed, stamina, and fitness. So is with Bolt, Micheal Jordon, Micheal Phleps, Nadal, Federer etc. It's neck to neck fight in all these parameters. If infrastructure and money are seen for any games popularity, than why people from India , Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh etc settled in England, US and Europe don't play soccer, basketball, track and field tennis, rugby and other games, which are popular there. There also people from India, Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh etc settled from generation play cricket only. Cannot find champs in games like soccer, basketball, track and field etc try to search champs in a lazy game cricket. @@Roughrider77 Let me take a look at some of Australia's performances in the WC before the final - they struggled against Afghanistan and won because one of the best individual performances, struggled against South Africa in the SF chasing a low total, nearly lost against New Zealand, had two average games against teams like Sri Lanka and England, they only outplayed teams like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Netherlands and now you are saying they picked up momentum as they geared through the knockout stage!! In the final, they got the best of conditions for bowling and batting, there's no B / S here! The dew made difficult for the spinners to grip the ball in the second innings and this was also confirmed by Wasim Akram, someone who you will probably have more faith than anyone else! The slowness of the pitch was also gone and the ball was coming on to the bat nicely after the 15th over or so! Australia had the mental strength in this final because they knew the target and it wasn't a very big one as well, they also knew that after 10-15 overs in the second innings, once the dew comes on and the ball loses its shine, batting would be a lot easier than it was in the first innings.

They could had easily posted 280 ish or above which would have probably been enough for India to win. But it was their outstanding bowling performance, and poor defensive mindset of Indian batsman that defied them. Once you post a smallish total, your very limited options left to defend what ever bowling strength you have. Also the fact, I can’t remember how much dew there was or if any, there was never a million years India would have defended that total especially against Australia. Another 4-5 wickets between overs 10-25 from the spinners would have resulted in the game being over for the Aussies but fortunately for them, the dew started to take its effect around over number 15 and that's when shot making became a lot easier and gripping the ball for the spinners became difficult. Even if the total was around 280, it's the dew that really made batting easier in the second innings and chasing 280 would have been possible. The only two defensive moves that I see was sending Jadeja ahead of Surya Kumar Yadav and the change in the bowling line up but both these moves still wouldn't have been an issue if the spinners found turn. If Australia batted first they would have been bundled out for less than 200 on that slow pitch, lmao I can understand why you're vouching that they would have posted a total in excess of 300! And next time look at your own team's performance and how they are looking at Qudrat ka Nizam to take them through everytime!!
