Hi Craig great video. I preferred it back then life seemed so much better and carefree. Hardly any cars about and half the people. Great stuff thanks.

And the shops seemed so, clean and places you’d want to enter. These days places look unloved and even the owners don’t care and a complete mess inside and out. There seemed pride back then (and yes I know not everything was perfect).

Excellent photos. Cars took over everywhere now!!!!

I was not a big fan of On the Buses but have enjoyed watching your videos for the nostalgia they seem to evoke in me. I cannot explain why, but in the stills taken from the programme, the streets and shops seem so much more ordered and tidy compared to today. Everything now seems to be overgrown and tatty by comparison - probably just my imagination! Great series of videos, thanks for posting.

Exactly what I said elsewhere. Back then the owners and staff seemed to present clean lines, order, tidy and there’s seemed some class. Now it seems a mess, down market and tacky and the staff and owners don’t care what the place looks inside and out.

When I was working in Denham many years ago we went for a lunchtime drink in a local pub and who should walk in the door but Reg varney, Stephen lewis and Bob Grand, dressed in there bus uniforms, They had been filming in Hairfield village,, They sat at our table and chatted for half and hour or so, what a memory....

That would have been them filming scenes from the series five episode 'The Best Man' in late 1971.

Fascinating Craig, remember when they were filming in Manor Way, as a school kid we watched the filming from above the shops, got autographs still from the main actors!

Not just any old "bus" going into the Safari Park, but one of the famous Atlantean coaches operated by Standerwick on long distance services between London and the North West. It later went off to end its life as a service bus in Hong Kong

Very interesting video again Craig. As has already been mentioned amazing how many cars there are. Couldn't film there today. Waiting for lockdown to end to get over there myself. Take care, Jeff

Another amazing video. I don't suppose some of those smaller roads actually had bus services along them in real life, but they were used for filming, being quiet roads.
@OntheBusesDatabase111 ай бұрын
They would generally film, preferrably, in streets that did not have public bus services using them as roads would need closed for short time for filming which is not ideal with bus services using them.

Amazing as usual. Watching all these movies for the first time in order all in one day today, while still in lockdown if you can believe it, here in Melbourne, Australia. Not sure which one is regarded as the best of the three. But I probably slightly preferred this one the best over the first movie so far. Had a bit more action. Holiday On The Buses next
@OntheBusesDatabase13 жыл бұрын
The general concensus is the third film (Holiday on the Buses) is the fans favourite. Personally, I prefer the first film.

Cars! Car! Cars! have spoiled the neat and tidy look in every city, town and village that we used to have, there are way too many of them now
@maskmonkeycustompaint2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, Its always interesting seeing how we are decaying as a society as the shops and areas of all our towns and cities are untidy now with too many cars and bad council road planning. The idea is of course to slow everybody down so they can tax us more.

One thing I noticed consistently: more cars.
@OntheBusesDatabase12 ай бұрын
Far more families have cars nowadays and some are even two car families. Also though roads were often cleared so filming could take place.

@ 8:35. What’s different there? Can’t put my finger on it. When I compare your two photos the All Saints Church looks different? Have they rebuilt it? The tower certainly looks different.
@OntheBusesDatabase13 жыл бұрын
No changes to the All Saints Church. Perhaps it looks different merely because of different camera equipment used to capture both shots and the screen dimensions the film was filmed in.

Bloody cars make me sick 🤢...... everybody walked,or used the bus in the old days.... and iam sure the atmosphere was a lot better.... and they got the cheek to call it progress.... just because something is modern, doesn't mean it's better than before.......i wish they could build a time machine...
