I have made a pact to myself to never buy "new" clothing for myself anymore. Only upcycle. I am disabled so I can wear whatever I want. My dog wears clothes through the cold months and I have been making all of her clothes out of my daughter's toddler clothes I saved. She loves them! I plan to upcycle what I have, and use thrift stores to source materials. I will occasionally buy fabrics for dress items for special occasions. I want to make my things rugged so they last forever. I am a retired welder and welding inspector for turbines for nuclear power plants, I want to make a bunch of things out of my old work uniform set. I started out restoring a vintage sewing machine as something to do while at home on treatments and bored. Now I have about a dozen sewing machines. I'm learning to sew and also doing leather work and handbags. Its something I can do even in bed, and gives me a sense of accomplishment. My daughter likes my handmade items better than store bought also.

I’ve been making handbags of recycled jeans for a long time now and you pretty much de-construct the same way I do. I have found the easiest way to remove all the short threads from the bar tacks is to press tape on the other side and most of it comes out in one go.
@belipe_belipe_belipe3 жыл бұрын
one years passed, but if you are still doing it the same way I'd suggest you to use an extra sticky lint roller. so convenient, especially for the leg seam.

Do you use card stock to make your patterns? Where do u get your pattern paper from. I would love to take jeans apart & remake them. Not by hand like you but with my sewing machine. I have never seen cardstock paper so big. Thank you so very much for your videos they are awesome. I’ve noticed flow & reflow what does that mean to you? Love your work. Can’t explain how much.

How do you take the chain sticking out so easily from the inseam it just doesn’t pull out the same way for me as in your video
@MUTSUBYPROSPECTIVEFLOW4 жыл бұрын
Sean Hargrove Thank you very much for watching my video👍 After you cut the begging of chain stitch, you need to find right thread to pull. So, if you can not find the right thread where you start from and then you need to try from other side! Good luck with your project🙌

Another tip, there are two threads to any machined seam: the bobbin thread on one side, and the needle thread on the other side. One of these will allow you to pull the seam out easily, I just forget which one and you cant really tell which is which by sight.
@seanseams63084 жыл бұрын
Lmystery Dmystery I believe based off the video it’s the bobbin side ? But it’s still such a hard technique to get right each time
