Ahhh! I love your pink animal print blouse here! It's soft and edgy at the same time - love it so much. Anyway, I am not over 50 - but I'm getting there so I am here getting a head start on style! Actually, I am 43, and I just retired from gentlemen's clubs about 6 months ago. I am trying to fit into the corporate world now, so I am adjusting my style from trendy and sexy to elegant and classy. I want to look modest without looking frumpy. I especially loved the video on how to wear a scarf, since I bought some gorgeous scarfs to create elegant outfits but need to be taught how to wear them. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your honesty on what makes 50+ women look older. At 68, I'm wearing clothing and styles that are fresh, modern AND not aging.

I also think that wearing modern things can go the other way and age you too. Pleather/leather trousers just scream 'I'm trying not to be old but I am.' Sorry but they just look dreadful. I have yet to see them look flattering on anyone.

Try dressing an apple shape and tunics/empire lines are ALWAYS recommended. With menopausal thickening of the middle, people who were previously rectangular become apples & are pretty much directed to embrace tunicsville with a “statement” necklace to draw the eye upwards and away from the midsection. Meanwhile bottoms which have a rigid waist end up being a couple of sizes too big for hips & legs by the time the (non-existent)waist is accommodated. It would be a damn site easier to embrace the galleon in full sail look & do lagenlook, particularly as they tend to use natural fibres!

Love this. I am discovering the same things you have. Since I am short, capris aren't much of a problem as they are almost ankle length on me. The Lipstick, for sure, no more nudes(or anything truly light) and no more really dark colors, brights in the correct tone work. The eyeliner I love is a bronze, just a bit of shimmer and light. I keep my overall clothing to classics now that I am retired, it gives my aging figure the right structure and they keep me current(I think).

1.I am guilty of the gardening shirt with the flowers. Yup....I did that! 2. When buying glasses, you did not factor in one of the most important needs. As some of us age, tri- focals become part of our life style. The larger frames are necessary to accommodate the 3 levels of the glasses. 3. The bob....that truly is a matter of taste. A stylized bob maybe , other wise all that hanging, straight hair, it draws the face down too much....especially if the texture of the hair is fine and limp....women need to face those hair realities. Great tips!

I'm loving your channel and all the great advice. The only thing I would have a different opinion about is hair. It seems everywhere I look, 9/10 women in their 50s and 60s have a bob haircut - short, medium or long, everyone I know of my age (57) has a bob. Except for one friend who wears her hair swept back and high on her head at the top, and it looks amazing, fashionable, trend-setting and super modern. It's the complete opposite of frumpy! But the 'garden centre' part was spot on, and very funny!

Can't say I agree with you on some of your content. A lot of older people have medical issues where they have to wear certain types of clothing or have issues with mobility when trying to put on necklaces with tiny clasps. Not to mention financial concerns..many older people are on fixed incomes and can't afford to pay for a helper or just to get nicer things in general. I really do think there are other ways to show you're in the present, by being a active participant in your local community, having a sense of humor, and be willing to try new things. Its not all about what you wear. I realize image and fashion is the heart of your channel and I do agree that older people shouldn't give up and become complacent or stop keeping themselves clean ( and/or their clothing) and in good shape. I do agree about using some cosmetic treatments on your hair and skin if you can since preservation contributes to overall good health. But...I don't like the underlying message I receive that you're nobody if you look old.

My goodness I could write am essay on my issues. And mobility is not age related in many people. Many of us of all ages have issues. Me although 61, my issues are chemo related. Tears from neuropathy last year when I couldn’t feel earrings to put them in, once I tried for 30 mins to put in one earring last September and then gave up. That’s when I started leaving a necklace on for. 3 months once i had it on. I’m in feet agony making videos at the moment as the neuropathy in my toes is really painful when I’m cold and at the moment doing summer videos in a cold house. I have a frozen shoulder or rotater cuff issue that means I can’t raise one arm without pain, that might be age related. I m most comfortable walking In trainers, Birkenstocks and fit flops so determined that they can look current. Anyway I know where you are coming from but as you say and appreciate that isn’t the topic of this video despite that I can’t abide by my own advice necessarily due to post chemo issues but I can abide by some of them . I so agree about learning and staying relevant and have promoted that in a few of my videos too. Thank you for your points and discussion. Cost is not related to looking current. I have many items from charity shops and buy second hand on Vinted. I’ve just written an essay 😀

I totally agree with you as much as I love fashion advice it's only a small part of my life and having two grown up daughter's in order of priority it would be achievement over appearance and looking presentable. Washed and dressed appropriately. Everything else is icing on the cake, nice but not necessary. As for myself I wear what I want. I come here like I do other youtube channels to spot trends or get simple ideas to update, but would I throw out a trouser lengths or a patterned tunic because a KZbinr thinks they're old-fashioned, absolutely not.

I love the “garden centre” reference. Having said that, if I am going to be lugging around a garden cart, heaving my purchases into my vehicle, and then carting it all to my garden, I’m going to wear clothes that will stand up to a bit of dirt. A thrifted shirt or sweatshirt is ideal. But I won’t wear my “garden centre” clothes as regular daywear. And I will always wear earrings and a skiff of mascara whenever I step out my door, be it to the garden centre or anywhere else.

That is another good point. Unfortunately some people's teeth can't whiten bright due to genetics, mine included. My orthodontist had the same issue, his won't whiten white. Sad as my daughters a dentist 😀😀

If we are fortunate enough to be able to choose how we want to look because we have the health and funds and interest, enjoy it. Here are fashion "telltales" that age a woman, IMHO: old lady bangs, old lady thighs, old lady vests, tucking, pleather, black leather. I'm guilty of some of them, so I am working on de-aging my style yet remaining practical. Not trying to look young,am trying to look great. For myself. My 86 year old mother list interest in grooming 4 years ago. She was known for her style. Her mind is still good, even sharp..but she doesn't do basic grooming. However, I had to get a plumber to her home to fix a faucet and I noticed she did her hair before his visit. Signs of vanity! There's life in that body yet.

Actually black leather or good quality pleather pants can look very fashion forward at any age, and such a classic look with some edginess, as long as they are not too tight,

Capris - the only capris I wear are the hiking outdoorsy kind at home only for housework, gardening, walking and, or playing with my large dog. I love the comfort. I do not wear them out, any wear. I see so many women wearing yellow, pink, blue tight leg capris. Hideous 😕 I work ina women’s wear store in Australia and I do try to get women to try ankle length linen instead.

My hair!!!! Curly, frizzy, wild, dry, grows in circles. I can put myself together but the mop ruins everything. I used to straighten it, both with an iron and chemically and it damaged it badly. Perhaps a wig?😮

Don't despair! I have very curly, salt & pepper hair. Look into the Curly Girl method of caring for your hair and find someone who is specialized at cutting curly hair. We need to condition our hair a lot and use a product that will calm the frizz and let it still be beautifully curly. I get compliments on my curly hair all the time (even from young women) and I'm 60.

Some great points here but disagree with the Maxi skirt one. I think unless you're tall they can swamp a shorter figure, especiallythe denim ones with the thick bulky material.. The Midi will always be my go to.

Oh I feel your pain, I’m a 2X, 5.1 and 79,not so easy to buy clothes,I’m sort of a rectangle,with an apple tummy,so if it fits the waist , it’s to big in the hips,so I have to wear long tops to hide all the extra fabric in the hips,wide leg pants can work for me,and I usually wear those if going out,but not so practical day to day.

I lost a LOT of hair after having Covid in 2020/2021. It was thin to begin with, but now it is really thin. I wear it long, actually waist length. I usually wear it up, with a hairpiece. I look like I have a nice up do with curls and bits which show slightly above my head giving me a little height. I have gone through every stage and every length from short and spikes all the way to waist length. Short and mid length is awful. Those of us who are losing our hair have to March to a different drummer as far as hair styles go. BTW I have actually lost FIVE teeth in the last two years after Covid. My teeth turned to chalk and broke off under my crowns. I Am investigating implants. It will cost thousands of dollars. I am 75, so It is a decision not to be taken lightly.

It totally depends on how it’s cut, how it’s styled, etc. You can’t make a blanket statement that all Bob haircuts are frumpy, or all eyeliner in a certain place is frumpy. I have a stylish bob, as do many people, but I also know the proper products to use and how to style it.

I bought a couple of pieces of Anna Luisa jewelry that another KZbinr was hawking - I guess their business model is to “gift” pieces of jewellery to YTubers for them to be the salespeople - and I was super disappointed with a solid real gold (not plated) necklace as not only was the chain so miniscule you could barely see the serpentine links, but it was completely made in China, unlike the rest of their “sustainable” green-washed jewelry. Very disappointed in them. And the other thing about jewellery - yes, the small chain jewellery looks cute on petite women or small built women, like you and me, but I don’t agree that it looks as good on my sister who is bigger busted and 5” taller than me. I think you might want to consider different sized jewellery for different sized people, just as you would consider different sized patterns on different sized people. One size does not fit all.
@Myover50fashionlife
@Myover50fashionlife 11 ай бұрын
Hi, I'm not sure of their business model but i can't accept gifts as i pay tax on items. Sorry you were disappointed in a piece. Yes bigger boned ladies suit bigger bolder jewelry as you say and luckily its back in style so now we are all looking at adding bigger jewelry to our outfits in 2024.

I disagree about fringes. I've got a cow's lick and look awful without a fringe. It makes me feel older and scruffy without one (I've tried!) Also, see Jo Wood. She's always had a fringe and it certainly doesn't age her. I greatly admire her style also.

Kinda contradictory to say that grey hair is pro-aging, when the rest of the video is decidedly anti aging. When I see a woman with grey hair I think she’s an older woman. So, doing all these things to look more youthful, when your grey hair screams older woman, doesn’t make sense to me. Instead of using the word “youthful” can we instead use the word modern or contemporary to describe our clothing choices. Constantly talking about “youthfulness” is hardly “pro-aging”.

Maxi skirts look awful on overweight people-even young rail thin models look heavy in maxi skirts-and unfortunately the majority of post menopausal women in the US are overweight. I love a solid color cardigan over a pretty print blouse for work as it is often cold and I have to layer. I do agree a tunic and a long necklace never looks good. I also think anything leopard print is dangerous for women over 50.
