I agree with everything you are saying but one of the joys of being older is that I can wear whatever I want and I don't care what anyone thinks about it. I had a long run of being noticed and admired and I am just too glad to pass the torch to someone younger.

I wish I could sew. I want someone to take two pairs of old Levis and make a double waist one for me. OH MAN! If I could sew, and make it look right, Id be sewing all day long.Youre so lucky. Imagine finding a patterned pair of Old Levis, and then a COOL pair of made in the US 501s. You take the first pair for the top pair, and create pair that looks like youre wearing one pair on top the other.

I disagree that cardigans restrict your movement. They will always be stylish if they fit properly. I don't buy trends. I buy classic and modern clothing. Trends change and get left behind in your closet. Matching my lipstick with my outfit? I always ask myself, "What would Audrey Hepburn do?"

Another item from that era that ppl are wearing again is flannel check shirts. This 60yo recently bought one (Costco) and it's so easy to wear and comfortable, - unbuttoned, over a fitting t-shirt and jeans, esp with a classy pair of leather sneakers. I got a fabulous pair this season from Australian brand Frankie4, basketball style that go up your ankle (helps with holding my skinny heels in the shoe.) These shoes "lift" the look of whatever I'm wearing, and people comment!

Love cardigans, and shaped fine cashmere cardigans do not age you. Loose thick cardigans up to the neck in cable knit - so aging. As for lipstick - you do need a lipstick that matches your skin tone, as if your undertone is yellow and you wear fushia it will look shocking as the undertone of fushia is blue.

Thank you. I felt I needed this as I use to follow fashion extremely closely when I was younger. At 53, I have drifted away but still want to look current. I did stop the cold shoulder blouse 1.5 years ago. I had a seamstress sew up the holes in one blouse as I truly loved it and did not want it to give it up. Ignore the comments from people who say we can all wear what we want. I have no idea why these people bother commenting if they are not interested? Some people in 9 lifetimes will never be interested in fashion but others are. I would never waste time watching videos about something I have no interest in.

You make a great point about colors. I had my colors done in my 30s and I was an autumn. All those earth colors looked great until I let my hair be grey. I came upon "Jill Kirsh Color" and she does colors based on what type of grey you are. Finally I am wearing royal blue and pinks, and I get a lot of compliments.....

If you come to Italy on holiday, wear linen linen linen. I am 70, retired to Sicily, and in the summer months can only bear loose linen shorts and shirts. I know they are a pain to iron, but they breathe. Of course you could wear a skirt.or dress (not an option for me on a bike). But please don't treat ancient cities like Siracusa as a beach resort. Seeing tourists wrapped in a sarong, or in shorts and a bikini top, wandering around the streets and shops not only hurts the eye but is against local ordinances

@lisahagan3136 have you tried linen blends. I know it's better to wear 100% natural fibres, but I'm petite and linen often looks stiff and bulky on me. But linen polyester (or if you can find it - linen/rayon) blends are softer, thinner and more flowing. Plus less wrinkles!

I prefer to not worry if I look old. I do like to look good, because then I feel good. When I feel good, others (and I) tend to view myself as relevant and of value. A 50+ woman can simply look good -- not "good for her age”. 😊

Talking about brows i did get microblading done on me 3 times and the therapist who was extremely skilled said my brows bleed heavily so much so most of the pigment is washed out the effect of the microblading only lasted about 6 mths she thought i was on blood thinners but im not on any meds of any sort. Anyhow the microblading process is extremly painful and i had swelling of the brows for a few days afterwards. I wouldnt bother getting it done again.

I agree, I am 69 and never worn either, look ugly to me! I still dye hair, would hate to look grey, although thats a personal thing, it is much lighter and a bit less warm. I don't see myself as older (although suppose I must be, by most peoples reckoning), still so interested in fashion and design. I trained as a textile designer and still freelance working as well as teaching it at an art college to undergrads. I am also lucky in being tall, which got bullied over when young, now it helps, as does having a waist two sizes smaller than hips and bust, although a devil to find dresses that fit usually, thank goodness for the long, waffty ones that have been around for the last couple of years, with drawstring waists, I small miss those, as going out apparently! Being 50 or over is nothing today, we are so young compared to previous generations, when ladies retired at 60 and were probably dead at 80; come on, we are still young and vital, just don't think old and chances are, you won't be. My dad was still working in his eighties, through choice and lived to be over 100!

@barefootbelle1355

Great that you say you want to look "as pretty as possible". It is possible to succeed in looking a little younger at the expense of your own attractiveness. For example, our 40-year-old aunt got pressured into dyeing her hair back to its original dark brown. Did she look younger? I admit that she did--but the gray had been more flattering and I hadn't noticed the roughness of her skin (old acne scars) before she did it. She did look significantly younger, but coarser, and not as pretty! Those are two different things. Some of this comes down to good taste. (By the way, she later ditched the dye.)

Another thing that is aging should be neck lines of tops. Round neck of a certain length is aging. I think that says more old fashioned than anything else. Jewelry chunky or small I think is also dependent on the style, and occasion of clothing. Cardigans are classic and wearing them as a top tucked partially into a waist band is very current. Lipsticks colours are more to do with the outfit and your makeup (heavy or light), again not necessarily aging. Current fashion on an older person is more to do with styling and confidence. And of course classic is never out of fashion or aging.

Nonconformity is an act sometimes of just wanting to appear above the throng. I've always liked dressing well, for my self. I'm not seeking compliments. I just like a good appropriate outfit. I notice other people who put themselves together. I see people who obviously don't put effort into their look, I figure it doesn't bring them any personal joy.

I like wearing shorts, relatively short skirts, and modern tops. If you wear a tee shirt dress, for heaven’s sake, wear a belt, it’s very flattering! I don’t often wear underwear, it’s unflattering. Many of my skirts have built in shorts! I love them. You looked younger with your longer hair. It wasn’t too long. Add some highlights to your grey hair. It would look smashing, and lovely.

Eyeliner: I read several years ago that eyeliner on the lower part of the eye should not extend past halfway. Doing it that way makes your eye appear larger. So I followed that. I find I don't wear eyeliner at all quite often unless I want to maybe kick it up a notch. I grew my fine hair out during the pandemic and I am getting it cut this week. Something around your length.

Thank you for this video I have watched several of your videos this afternoon and have subscribed! We are of like mind about style and ageing. Regarding "colors" - I was a "winter" until my hair went gray, my skin became pastier, and my hazel eyes leaned more brown than green. I recently decided the gray was not working anymore and my hair stylist gave me the gift of "ginger". I love it! I can wear browns, some shades of yellow, and a more diverse pallet of tones than before. Best of all, my hazel eyes are now more green and no longer disappear into my face. Embracing the changes we cannot stop as we age and making the most of them is liberating! BTW, I am 64.

Oh dear, I just bought a t shirt dress 😂. Admittedly it's to wear at home, if summer ever gets here! Eye liner..hmmm I have no bottom eyelashes and need a little liner to define my eyes. I don't go heavy as I did in my teens. Thank you for the video.

I've never found a pair of jeans that didn't make me look two sizes bigger. I love my tailored trousers in straight leg or bootcut. I like classic navy and off white with an injection of a third colour to stop making it look like a uniform.

I think cardigans are the most difficult thing to get right. My general rule is short buttoned up cardis with looser trousers/skirts and long open cardis with jeans/leggins. But even then i have looked at my outfit and gone...nope, just nope!

It's interesting to see another person in various outfits (bc it's hard to be objective about ourselves). My example, I had a professor who used to wear these long, shapeless "pilgrim" dresses to class, with clogs. One night I saw her out at a bar and she was wearing jeans, and I thought, "Well, you're actually quite slim after all! It's just those hideous dresses that make you look old."

I am what some call a classic dresser which I think is dateless. To only wear what is on trend is running with the sheep. And not necessarily youthful.

Height in hair on top depends on your face shape. Length also depends on face shape. Clothes….I can guarantee yr vitality has more to do with how people see you what age you are perceived as being than your clothes in aging you. Keep up to date on the world and have an authentic opinion. Nothing ages you more than hatred bigotry and sheer lack of data about things in general. If the amount of time you spend thinking about how your clothes make you look exceeds the amount of time you spend thinking about other things, you are old in the not interesting way.

Everything is in the eye of the beholder it would seem. I’m looking at your appearance now and it looks a bit dated to me. Your yellow outfit while not being correct colour, looks young and playful. Your hair at a longer length took years off you! I’m 72 years young and have only just started wearing leggings (both skinny and flared) but in a thicker forgiving material, so I hope you’re not right about those :). And my neck I have to cover as I have Spondylitis which means wearing a neck brace to ease the pain when out. (Covered by silk scarf). So I hope I don’t look too odd. At the end of the day I just hope that concentrating on the right or wrong thing to wear is not going to rob us of our identity and ability to be happy.

My aging-look fashion metric is: “Would Doris (my 👹 mother-in-law) wear this?” If the answer is yes, then it’s a definite NO for me and my closet! She was a fry-permed, micro-color-coordinated, polyester knit, cruise-wear-look, cheap catalog-apparel, wear crochet anything, horrid print junkie right down to the actual threads. I believe she never owned a natural fiber or wore a muted color in her life! 😉

Haha I have a relative like that, and also an unfortunate tendency to also gravitate toward that style of clothing (maybe a family thing? 🤣). Oh you are so right about needing to recheck our colors! I got mine done over 30 years ago and was a Winter. Lately I've found myself more able to wear peachier tones and even some aqua, both of which I adore but never used to look good on me... and now I find some shades look good on me, most likely due to my hair getting lighter and more reddish. It's fun being able to experiment with new colors a bit! P.S. I can still sometimes get away with the barbie pink that used to be so flattering on me, but it's getting harder. I say enjoy the trend now if you can! That sweet barbie pink is everywhere!

I really enjoyed your video. I have purchased so many lipsticks that I just stopped the craziness! I use the brand Clinique dramatically different lipstick in a strawberry color. I wear it year round and it just suits me. I have salt and pepper hair and pale skin and it really brightens my face. No more “ rules” for me. I’m 69 , so I have pretty much figured it out. Thanks again😁

I always feel that you want to look really nice without looking like you worked at it. Some overdone nails and makeup absolutely horrify me. Rule of thumb, only have one star in your outfit, everything else are just supporting actors. Fluffy short hair is very youthful. Have the confidence to let your hair go natural, when I colored it that skunk line in the part was aging.
