The teacher is absolutely stunning and is an incredible actress. She’s super subtle for this period in film where things were usually very exaggerated. I love it when she smirks 💕

What a wonderful film! I just watched it for the very first time here on youtube, but I had seen its name in art film publications many times over the years..

I heard from another youtube reviewer that the actresses and actors, along with the rest of the crew were mostly jewish, and they had to flee germany to survive but some didn't made it and were sent to consentration camps 😭💔 Christa (the director and writer) of this movie survived though, and made the other madchen in uniform movie in 1958. I'm still so happy there were lesbians and gay and queer people in the 30s and the fact this movie came out at all means so much to the history of queer people despite the prejudices they've been through, a lot of hollywood celebs were also queer idols like tallulah bankhead and marlene dietrich, they've been so ahead of their time, even ours in 2022/2023 ❤️

Christa is the writer, not the director. This wonderful woman was involved only in 1931 film and plays 1930 & 1932. The rest was staged or filmed without her involvement. All hail great writer, playwright etc, animal sculptor Christa Winsloe!

I don't know if you have seen Olivia, a similar kind of film but the actress who played the teacher Julie was a lesbian in real life. Edwige Feuillère was one of the best actresses who has ever lived and she was actually a sapphic predator! Brilliant film I would recommend watching if you haven't seen it. Also the 1958 version with swoonworthy Lilly Palmer.
@ForeverFemslasher Жыл бұрын
@@LilBafta I watched Olivia, yes. As for 1958 version, Palmer is nothing compared with perfect for the role Dora Wieck.

@@ForeverFemslasher I loved both actresses' renditions, but personally prefer Lilli's more because it was the film I saw first. It's like Dr Who - your favourite Dr is usually the first one you get "to know". Can you recommend something else Dora is in that is good?
@ForeverFemslasher Жыл бұрын
@@LilBafta I'm not Doctor Who watcher either (but visually, 12th Doctor is probably the most no, and a friend was a huge fan of him on Tumblr.) As for 1958 version, I refused to watch it for about 5 years before a friend asked to compare (to know how much better 1931 version is.)

At least, they look as if age is different. What is crazier is that Ellen Schwanneke (Ilse von Westhagen) was 1+ year older than both lead actresses.

I'm suspicious that this is a 1931 film. This looks like a modern day scene with optics that appear old
@ForeverFemslasher Жыл бұрын
No member of cast and crew is alive now, so no. In my opinion, it's the other way around. Most of modern people don't look like from other time, but some would look like from 1931 (I'm one of these few.)
