"Mantronix" is a project from DJ / producer Kurtis Mantronik. In the year 1989 he teamed up with vocalist Wondress Hutchinson for their track "Got To Have Your Love". That one became a big hit in countries such as the UK, the USA, Canada, The Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Austria and many others.
Because of the 30th anniversary of "Got To Have Your Love", I sat down with producer Kurtis Mantronik, to ask him about the story behind the track, you will hear more about the production process of the track, what happened after the release of "Got To Have Your Love", Kurtis' future plans and more!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

I discovered his work when I moved to Miami in 87. Mantronik sound was big on the Miami Bass scene and the work he did with Joyce Simms was big on the Freestyle scene. I was a huge Duran Duran fan and they released a limited edition remix album that had Mantronik mixes of a few of the album tracks from the Notorious album. His remix of a song called Vertigo got a lot of play in my friend's car because of the bass drum sound that he added. It was a secret weapon because nobody knew where the song came from.

Wicked interview. I think it’s the first time I’ve heard him speak! He used to be very elusive back in the 80’s especially. The Album was straight fire 🔥🔥🔥, but when Music Madness was released, that just straight blew my head off 🤯. I was 14 at the time and had it first on cassette. I listened to each track in order on full blast through 🎧. I got stuck at Listen To The Bass Get Stupid Fresh Pt2 🔊🔊🔊🔥🔥🔥for about a couple of days straight!! 😂. Listening to that album back in 86’ was like peering into the future. It was like nothing else on the planet at the time. It sounded so futuristic it made me wonder what hip hop would sound like in the year 2000 and beyond. The answer to that was a big let down put it that way…

10:41 When he said " Cold getting dumb!" I smiled from ear to ear! Because I still rock that song to this VERY DAY ! AND DON'T FORGET>>>. Mantronik actually helped produced the hit "Ugly People be quite!" by DJ Cash Money ( who was great in his own right! ) & MC Marvelous. Don't be fooled by the lyrics of the song,. Hurbie Lov didn't really make that hit,. It was Mantronik who set the table on that classic but never got credit!!! Detroit here,. Peace

Man i Idolized MANTRONIX:: back n the Days & Today I Boast about them & giving my CD's away to Old Skool Hip Hoppers that know Mantronix when it comes to King Of Rap discussions. They Still are my Favourite Rap Group cos of the Electronic, Synth Freaky Show Down they pulled off back then got me Hooked like a Drug. They just had it All n One so i got tape decks mixed Mantronix & Mashed em up & my homies went wild! I was a DJ playing Sped up & Pumped up records for parties etc..& I always play Mantronix short Mega Mix just Killing it in Parties. Both Kurtis Mantronik & MC - Tee are my Np#1. Legends when it comes to Real True Hip Hop! They were so Original even today; My love for MANTRONIX:: Will Never Die. HIP HOP DON'T STOP IN FULL EFFECT[ↂ■■ↂ]

A buddy of mine introduced me to Mantronix by playing needle to the groove when it was first released. I was blown away by the concept of the song's title. As I listened, I imagined hiphop DJ's dropping turntable needles on wax ( vinyl records ) and showcasing their turntablist skills. That joint's a classic.

Thank you Muzikxpress for such a great interview. This guy was one of my favourite artists back in late 80's early 90s. So nice to see where he is and what he's up to these days. Personally, I wish he would re-release the hit single "Get your Love, " . Greetings from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦. Currently on lockdown. February 2, 2021

love the tune - when it came out and still now .... i have literally been listening to it for 30+ years..... sometimes i play it to other people - if they don't like it or jump up and down , i punch them in the face

I'm glad to hear him talking in a positive way about it, the quote about this song on his wikipedia page makes it sound like he doesn't actually like it! Absolutely perfect track, in my view.

Alec Nicholson Glad you enjoyed it! And this is also one of my favorite tracks he did, so I was very happy when I got a positive reply on my interview request! Legend!

Strange, although the V50 wasn't popular, it is just a TX81Z with 16 note polyphony a keyboard, a sequencer and a drum machine. An early Workstation.

Top 5 hip hop & r n b producers of all time. When cold gettin dumb dropped in the clubs and underground warehouse parties in London the whole place went insane! Also when ladies and baseline dropped in the west end clubs the people went mad on the dance floor. Extraordinary producer. I think that label is sleeping bags.
