MV Jupiter was the oldest of three Caledonian MacBrayne ferries affectionately know as the 'streakers'. Propulsion was by twin Voith Schneider propellers, one at the bow and one at the stern. These propellers could provide thrust through 360 degrees allowing great manourerability. Jupiter entered service in 1974 and spent much of her career operating the Gourock - Dunoon service on the upper Clyde. Taken out of service in 2010 she was sold for breaking and towed to Grena in Denmark for recycling.
