I have very fond memories of the b&I when I was growing up my parents would travel to Ireland from Liverpool with me and my brother and as time went on my 2 sisters, the leinster had the pullman lounge at the aft of the ship and the seats would beat anything the airlines could offer, even now the ulysses offers comfortable sailings at prices that can't be beaten

An interesting film. It must have been filmed across more than one day as the Liverpool/Dublin crossing took 8-9 hours. When we see the Leinster approaching Holyhead she passes the St. Columba on the Sealink service to Dun Loaghaire. The berth alongside the railway station at Holyhead was abandoned in favour of the Salt Island berths further out to sea. The breakwater there is the longest in the world apparently.

The only time I sailed on this ship was at the end of June 1977 when my mum took me to Dublin (or Átha Cliáth in Irish) for the very first time. I'm welling up just thinking about it, such are the fond memories I have. The reason why we went over was because my granny was in very poor health and my mum felt her family needed to know. At the time, So You Win Again was in the charts and, well, we'd not long celebrated the Silver Jubilee. I know we sailed on the Leinster (named after the province in which the 'fair city' is located) because my mum got me a US-style sailor's hat with the name of the ship on. About fifteen years ago, I said that I wanted to move to Dublin...something which my mum wasn't happy about. In fact, she threatened not to take me there ever again unless I abandoned what to her was a stupid idea.

***** They stopped it when B&I was taken over by Irish Ferries (I think) and for some reason, they didn't continue with the service. There was a short lived Irish sea ferry service from Liverpool in the late 90s but I can't find anything online about that. I also remember the SeaCat which ran for about three or four years in the late 90s/early 00s. That went from Liverpool to Dublin. But these days, if you live in the North West and want to travel by sea to Ireland you have to go from Holyhead. I actually don't mind as it is a lot quicker even on the slow ferry.

I think that is the Miranda. I use to see them Bitd my Dad worked on a restaurant ship across the liffey at Custom House Quay.

How times have changed eh, remember sailing to Liverpool with my parents and siblings back in 88 on a night sailing, the b& I think it was the Munster was welcoming and was warm inside, where this vessel berthed is now the berth of the Stena superfast and the stena explorer next to it is the berth of the Irish ferries Jonathan swift, and of course the vessel passed the berth of the Ulysses and w.b yeats

holyhead has changed a hell of a lot since but the old ferry terminal is still there across from the current terminal, even the ships sailing the Dublin holyhead route are a lot bigger than the mv leinster

Yes you are right from 1993 to 1996 it was isle of Inishmore then was name Isle of Innishturk. Itnow sails today in Canada
