Thanks for reacting to PAINT ME. The song is actually their introduction song to their 4 Seasons Project. One of my personal top 3 songs by Mamamoo is STAR WIND FLOWER SUN. Solar wrote it for her bandmates, their families, and ofc MooMoo's. Would enjoy seeing you react to it. ❤❤🦋❤

Moonbyul actually auditioned as a vocalist but was told that if she wanted to debut she had to be a rapper because the group already had 3 great vocalists. I'm so glad she is singing more because I love her vocal tone. At first when they debut she lacked vocal confidence. She even came first in a competition where rappers compete as vocalists. From the start of the completion she took the lead. On one performance, where she belted a high note well, the judges told her that she was 'greedy'. for singing high notes and using vocal trick ( Judges actually gave her a zero on this performance. Some fans thought the score was zero because if Moonbyul got a high score she would most likely win.

The vocals are 🤯!!!! Here I thought you had already showed me some of my favorite Mamamoo songs and you go pulling this joint out the bag??? I can't even explain how good the sound of this song is, like trying to think up words is difficult. Each member had a moment to shine, I think it's safe to say this is easily the top for me. Regardless if someone is a fan of theirs, the appreciation of the craftsmanship in this song cannot be overlooked. Thanks so much Jayy, constantly adding to my playlist, fantastic work.

Mamamoo started off 2018 with a bang by pre-releasing Paint Me as the theme song of their yearlong four album series 4 Season 4 Color. Paint Me was unlike anything they had done before and it immediately became my favorite MMM song. Paint Me marks the beginning of what I would call their mature phase. 4 Season 4 Color is the most complex and ambitious project ever done by a girl group. By the way, Paint Me is the first time Moonbyul sang more than harmonies on a group song. She continued to sing more and more and became another weapon in their vocal arsenal. The MV is deceptively simple but actually it builds on the lyrics to express the main concepts and cyclical symbolism used throughout the 4 Season 4 Color project. Each album had a theme season & color and each of the title tracks explored a stage of love in a four part relationship cycle that matched the season & color. Each album also included a self-composed solo song by the member assigned to that season's color. The member/color assignment is seen in the Paint Me MV and in the song each member sings about the emotional stage associated with her color. Here's a summary: Yellow Flower album, title track Starry Night: Spring/Yellow/Attraction/Hwasa - solo song Be Calm. Red Moon album, title track Egotistic: Summer/Red/Passion/Moonbyul - solo song Selfish. Blue;S album, title track Wind Flower: Fall/Blue/Heartbreak/Solar - solo song Hello. White Wind album, title track Gogobebe: Winter/White/Unattached (Innocence in childhood)/Wheein - solo song 25. As hinted in the emotional or relationship stage of Winter & White, there's also a parallel with a four stage life cycle - the innocence of childhood (White), the spring fever of youth (Yellow), the fiery passion of adulthood (Red) and the melancholy of old age (Blue). In the lyrics you'll notice the color sequence continues to Black, representing death and the end of life. Imo the final scene in the MV implies reincarnation and the beginning of another life cycle. I don't think it's a coincidence that 4S4C includes four colors of Taoist 5 element color theory but leaves out Black and that their next album after 4S4C is called reality in BLACK (Bless Life and Carry Knowledge). Note that the only recognizable objects in the MV are the black and white pianos and when Solar sits on the black piano the lid becomes a portal that transports them from the initial b&w abstract set to a full color world in the clouds where the B&W pianos are fitted together in a yin yang symbol. Paint Me is a love song on the surface but imo the hidden subject of Paint Me is their relationship with music. I think the pianos are a clue. Another clever clue is the reference to four of the five sense in the lyrics - sight (painting), smell (scent), taste (espresso) and touch (engraving). Imo the other senses are metaphors for the one sense not mentioned - hearing, our way of perceiving music. Music is their means of self-expression and the thing that brings meaning to their lives in all its many emotional colors, seasons and stages.

@@otjayy Thanks. Some of this is general knowledge and some is just my opinion but I think it gives you an idea of the overall structure and main concepts of the 4S4C project. MMM almost never explains anything in detail, leaving it up to us to interpret for ourselves. Feel free to come up with your own theories about Paint Me and the 4S4C albums and title tracks. :)
