I love how the song goes from "Look at the flower that never bloomed" and "Everybody thinks I was happy, but I..." to "That flower in full bloom under the sunlight, it's blooming like it's never gonna wither" and "Everybody thinks I'm not happy, but I...". What I get from the lyrics is: when she was with that person she was really unhappy and felt trapped, but on the outside she looked happy, because it's always assumed by most people that you'll be happier when you're not alone. And after the breakup she was reborn as a free and more confident person and now, while people think she's unhappy, she still hates the person but is actually happy and found her true color. She buried her past self to be reborn. A pretty amazing song and mv, in my opinion. Always enjoy your reactions, thank you for reacting to Solar!

All filmed in Mongolia. From the BTS stuff i saw it was pretty cold. You can see some snow in the background. :) I think the horse dying/mirror flash back is sort of representative of her loss of freedom. That's all I really have to add.

I'm so glad you picked up on how the lines that bookended the songs changed, and symbolized the rebirth that took place over the course of the song.

Yeah, this song was meaningful. I was so happy and super excited about this MV and her new songs. Her MV was filmed in my country 🥹. She was in places where I’m familiar. Still, I can’t believe it.

Yes, I agree, the desert setting complemented the song really well. Mamamoo's Starry Night is one of my fave MVs, and I rank this MV to be on the same level as Starry Night.

Solar has given a really fun presentation about her entire album and the thoughts and ideas behind every song. Each song has an associated colour that fits its mood. But I is "reborn beige". Since beige is pretty close to a skin colour, it can also represent something raw. Here's the presentation if you want to see it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haetfYymg52VrKM And speaking of the album, I highly recommend you give it a listen! Especially the first and last tracks. Colors (the song) is something we've never heard from Mamamoo before but still so essentially Solar. I hear there might be a music video coming for that one? 👀 And then there's Blues which is just a pure powerflex of Solar's vocals.

I love your analysis and breakdown which is pretty much close to what I think in mind but it's also thanks for the nice production with good storytelling. As other comment has pointed out, there is a presentation on Solarsido channel. In addition, according to the comeback interviews, the dying pass self in 'But I' also represents herself to break free from what bothered her "I decided on Reborn Beige (for 'But I') with the intention of dying of my previous tendencies and being reborn and living a cooler life. I created color names that fit each song." (Not sure my translation got the captured the whole meaning). In particular, Solar wrote the lyrics herself and is listed as the first author of the lyrics writing credit before Kim Do-hoon, so it really feels personal. In addition, though 'But I' sounds very different than the first track 'Colors', they do have some profound connections. For instance, 'Colors' relates to the state that Solar accepted who she is and realized herself is also very valuable in her own ways from which she learned it through appreciate the uniqueness of various persons come across her lives and extended to the meaning that everyone in this world is unique like one of the colors in whole spectrum of possibilities that are all respectful and it's the foundation of this colorful world or make your world colorful through respect others. Solar is a very unique artist who always has this kind of abstract thinking starting from something very personal then extends it to a relatively grand topic. Anyway, this song is so good and you should try to listen to the whole album including 'But I' again because it feels different without the stimulation of those amazing shots in the MV since we can truly appreciate the elegant composition of this song and the delivery of Solar's incredible vocal.
