I live in Buffalo, NY, that's about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls and you should go to the Canadian side of the Falls-it's better. Do the Maid of the Mist, you will love it! On our side of the Falls there is The Cave of the Winds and on the Canadian side there is The Journey Behind the Falls-both are awesome. Buffalo is an amazing Food town, we have everything here-Drive thru and eat-you will not be disappointed!

Seems like a lot of driving and not enough days. If you all come through Kansas you will probably do it on I70, 15 minutes south on 135 is Lindsborg Kansas (Little Sweden) several great places to eat, if you have time and it is worth the drive. Say hi while you are in town if you do stop in!

While driving west, you should drive through South Dakota. It's mostly boring farmland and ranches until you hit Rapid City, where you can see the beautiful Black Hills National Forest and see Mt. Rushmore at least. Oh, there is Wall Drug too.

I heartily recommend hitting up Detroit and Kalmazoo on your way west. Detroit has been named #3 city in the nation for hot food cities by Zagat, and Kalamazoo (all of western Michigan really) has a fantastic beer (and food) scene. Great places to hit if you are headed to Chicago.

***** Even if it doesn't actually take that long, it will definitely seem like it. The US is bigger than you'd think. Lots of tourists come over thinking they'll do stuff like you're doing, going to cool places all over the country, and then they spend 168 hours in the car.

***** It is about 40 hours of travel. Add in stops for food and stopping to see some sites on the way and I think you could easily do it in 4-5 days without stopping in a hotel overnight.
