Incredible TJ Helmerich at the beginning here... And then the classic gang.

I listened to this 1000 times before I noticed the punch-in during the solo at 3:50 and now it hits me like an icepick to the brain every time. Now you'll hear it as well!

Frank Gambale has never disappointed. From passages, the first album I heard, to the best of the acoustic side, his versatility has always been jaw dropping and thoroughly amazing. Not to mention the musicians he's played with.

Same. My CD had a track called "Lane's Blitz" or something that was 20 seconds of Shawn Lane defying physics, which isn't included here.

As far as individual tone goes, Gambale has such a more defined, articulate sound. I love his phrasing. Everyone else still kills it though. This entire album is masterful. Everyone is on point the whole way through.

Tj is just one of a kind and simply amazing!!! He should have more recognition and appreciation from the guitar world...in the of the day I think there's enough Satriani and Vai worshipers on the plannet, when people like Tj have taken guitar playing light years away from where it used to be in the days of the so called 80s "Guitar Gods"!!!

SuperCocksuckinggoog That little Shawn Lane solo piece (which Shawn didn't really like by the way) you're talking about does not exist in this 2004 reissue of the album. This 1 minute solo in the beginning of "Love Struck" is the only new addition to the classic "Centrifugal Funk" album, and it's obviously T.J. Helmerich playing here (no one else sounds like this). So, no "Lane's Blitz" here.

Wasn't the story with "Lane's Blitz" that Shawn was simply doing a warmup and Mike Varney recorded it without Shawn knowing, and he [Varney] released it later, much to Shawn's chagrin? "Lane's Blitz" showed up on one of the Shrapnel artist compilation CD's I received in the mail back in the early 90's, that's the only reason I never heard it. And for what it's worth, warm-up/practice or not -- it was simply amazing..!! :)
@Ebriel0000000 Жыл бұрын
You're right : the 36' recorded warmup called "Lane's Blitz" is something else ;-) Hum even if Shawn wasn't in the first MVP album (it was Gambale and Holdsworth... with a much better drummer), this one is weaker. Thanks to all of the guys : this final track is a big thing anyway.

Wow...known about this album for years but only heard a few tracks. This is the first time I've heard this particular one... is actually a revved up cover of guitarist Jesse Johnson's tune which appeared on his 1988 album ""Every Shade Of Love". Just thought I'd point it out since it isn't mentioned in any of the other comments. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYnOlqOtq6mFnsk

TJ was a 8 finger tapper so he could do things they can't, Jennifer Barton played like that so did Jeff Watson from night ranger, I think you can hear it on you can still rock in America.

I disagree. Gambale is the more advanced improviser, Although Shawn got the cleanest tone. Fantastic players all three of them, although I rank Holdsworth the highest among guitarplayers, he was not just the most innovative of all of the fusion guitarists but he was also much more advanced in most respects although not as versatile. RIP Allan Holdsworth.
@franciscojavier9807 жыл бұрын
I love Frank, but Garsed is a ridiculous improviser too... at least, in the same league that Gambale.. Check his song Burgers in Bed where improvise without see the mastil and with closed eyes... AMAZING
